It should be abandoned by understanding, except for the undefiled. It is to abandon the attachment to the perfection of meditating on self. How is it that it is not to be abandoned? What are the things that are not to be abandoned? Why examine what is not to be abandoned? It should be observed that the undefiled is not to be abandoned. One aspect of the aggregates that is not to be abandoned is the path that transcends the world, and what is attained after it. Except for what is in accordance with the part of discernment, one aspect of the aggregates, the ten realms, and the four sources. And that and the unconditioned. What kind of form and sound realm is not to be abandoned? It is the nature of the good deeds of body and speech of the non-learner. It is to abandon the attachment to the realization of self. How does it arise from various causes? What are the things that arise from various causes? Why examine the arising from various causes? Through characteristics, differentiation of limbs, abbreviation of limbs, establishment of limbs as causes, establishment of the actions of limbs, collection of limbs into afflictions, meaning and difficulty to understand, detailed differentiation, accordance, and mutual discordance, it should also be observed that it arises from various causes. All except for one aspect of the realm of phenomena and the source. The characteristic of the unconditioned. It is to abandon the attachment to the self as having no cause and arising from a discordant cause. It is to abandon the attachment to arising from causes such as Ishvara. What is it like in terms of characteristics? It arises from an unwavering cause, arises from an impermanent cause, and arises from a powerful cause. What is the characteristic of dependent origination that the Blessed One spoke of? That is, when this exists, that arises; when this arises, this arises. For example, with ignorance as the condition, actions, and so on. Among them, when this exists, that arises, because it arises from an unwavering cause. If the cause exists, the result will inevitably arise, but for the sake of the result arising, the wavering of the cause is synonymous with nothing.

This being born, that is born, is called arising from impermanent conditions, because the result does not arise from an unarisen cause. "Conditioned by ignorance, actions," and so on, arise from the condition of ability. Although the result is unwavering and impermanent, not all results arise from any condition. However, they arise from the condition of ability, such as actions arising from the condition of ignorance, up to aging and death arising from birth. How are the limbs divided? The twelve limbs, the twelve limbs that arise from individual conditions, are: ignorance, action, consciousness, name and form, six sense sources, contact, feeling, existence, grasping, craving, birth, aging and death. How are the limbs summarized? What is the projecting limb? The projected limb, the accomplishing limb, and the accomplished limb. Those who analyze the twelve limbs in order, such as ignorance, are summarized into four limbs, namely the projecting limb and so on. Arising is shown only by these, and should be shown as follows: such as in the causal stage, what projects, what is projected, in the result stage, what accomplishes, what is accomplished, all of these should be known to be shown by these limbs. Among them, the projecting limbs are: ignorance, action, and consciousness, because the habit is instilled in the mind by the action that precedes the non-understanding of the truths that will make future birth complete. The projected limbs are name and form, the six sense sources, contact, and feeling, because the seed of the gradual completion of the former depending on the latter, such as name and form, is increased by the habit of the mind. The accomplishing limbs are craving, grasping, and existence, because of the power of not abandoning craving such as desire, the aspect of practicing well and practicing poorly on desire and so on.

The intention that precedes delight in attachment, and the close association with desire, if such consciousness arises, then in order to produce results at the time of death, one will acquire any habit that is in accordance with intention and desire. The manifested limbs are birth and old age and death. In this way, when other karmic habits manifest, they produce results just as if they were thrown out, and in order to manifest any similar category that is distinct in terms of birth-place and so forth, such as name and form. Mentioning birth and old age and death is to cause weariness through the occasion of the three characteristics of conditioned phenomena. Old age and death are made into one limb, because death is possible even without joy. From the womb-born birth-place, the arising of the six sense bases and so forth without name and form and so forth is not the case, therefore it should be understood that these are divided into separate limbs. How are the limbs established as the nature of conditions? It should be understood that the limbs are also established as the nature of conditions through habits, power, attention, and co-emergence, and these should be applied accordingly. Establishing the limbs as the nature of conditions is done in terms of the four conditions. Among these, ignorance is the condition for formations, it is the causal condition for previously arising habits. The limbs that arise from that fully ripened cause are also able to manifestly form existence, because at that time it is the manner of universal arising. The term "by mind" means that it is the immediately preceding condition, because at that time, due to the distinction of throwing, the continuum of formations arises continuously. The term "attention" means that it is the objective condition, because in times of delusion, one attends improperly to the excellent and so forth as an object. The term "co-emergence" means that it is the dominant condition, because by its power, the mental factors that are in accordance with it manifestly form the object in a reversed manner. How are the functions of the limbs established? What is the function of ignorance? To make beings deluded in existence, and formations.
