It is like carrying something on the shoulder. The part of the body that carries the burden is called the shoulder, just like carrying something on the shoulder. What is the meaning of realm? It is the meaning of the seed of all dharmas. It is the meaning of the power of the cause for the universally grasping consciousness. It is also the meaning of holding one's own characteristics. It is the meaning of holding the reality of the fruit and the cause. Holding the reality of the fruit and the cause is: for those eighteen realms, there are six consciousness realms, and the realms and order of the sense bases. It is also the meaning of gathering all the forms of dharmas and destroying them. Gathering all the forms of dharmas and holding them, just like in the sutras, the earth realm and so on, and other realms are spoken of, it should also be known how to consistently gather them into these eighteen realms. What is the meaning of the source of arising? It is the meaning of the door through which consciousness arises. The meaning of the seed and the meaning of gathering all the forms of dharmas should also be known as the meaning of the source of arising. What are the metaphors? Form is like a hailstone. Feeling is like a water bubble. Perception is like a mirage. Formations are like the trunk of a banana tree. Consciousness is like an illusion. Why are form and so on like hailstones and so on? Because they are grasping at no-self, grasping at impurity, grasping at small taste, grasping at being independent and without essence. The meaning of these own sutra words should also be known to be explained as non-existence, nourishment, accumulation, and without essence. They are the antidote to the perversions of self, purity, bliss, and permanence, and should be understood according to the words and order of grasping at no-self and so on. What are the distinctions between the aggregates, realms, and sources of arising? In summary: Real existence, knowable, form, and so on. Defiled, arising, and so on, past and causes, and so on. How, when, and why? How are the aggregates, realms, and sources of arising real? What are those that are real? Why are they considered real? It is said to be the object of the senses.

That which does not depend on consciousness and does not depend on others is substantially existent. Everything is substantially existent. In order to abandon the attachment to the appearance of substantiality in myself, I examine substantial existence. The application of the three questions—how, what, and why—in three ways is for the sake of abandoning nature, confusion about things, and superimposition. Among them, "How is it substantially existent?" means that by showing the nature of substantial existence, it eliminates confusion about it. "Everything is substantially existent" eliminates confusion about things. "In order to abandon the attachment to the appearance of substantiality in myself" eliminates superimposition. Similarly, it should be applied to other things as well. Not depending on the expression of the object of the senses is like this: such as form, feeling, etc., one does not grasp the clarity of the name, but grasps what the meaning is. Not depending on others is like this: the mind arises there without depending on other meanings. For example, it is not like the mind of a pot arising for pots, etc., depending on form, etc. How is nominal existence? What are nominal existences? Why examine nominal existence? That which depends on the expression of the object of the senses and depends on others is nominal existence. Everything is nominally existent. In order to abandon the attachment to the appearance of substantiality in myself, I examine nominal existence. How is conventional existence? What is conventional existence? Why examine conventional existence? That which is the object of all afflictions is conventional existence. That which is the object of all afflictions is for the sake of increasing all afflictions. Everything is conventionally existent. In order to abandon the attachment to the appearance of myself as the cause of all afflictions. In order to abandon the attachment to the thought that I am the cause of all afflictions. How is ultimate existence? What is ultimate existence? Why examine ultimate existence? That which is the object of purification is ultimate existence. That which is the object of purification is ultimate existence, it is the object of supreme wisdom.
