it will become afflicted. Sometimes it will become unafflicted. When the consciousness that individually recognizes forms, etc., why is it called eye consciousness, etc., and not called form consciousness, etc.? Because the combination of five types of words is reasonable, and the words for forms, etc., are not reasonable. How is it understood? The consciousness on the eye is eye consciousness, because consciousness arises in the place of reliance. If it exists, then it also exists. For example, if the eye exists, then the eye consciousness of non-blind people will arise, and even darkness will appear. Even if form exists, it will not arise without meaning, because the blind cannot see. Eye consciousness is eye consciousness, even if form does not change, consciousness will change due to its influence. For example, if one is afflicted with yellow eye disease, the eye will see blue objects, etc., as yellow. The consciousness that arises from the eye is eye consciousness, because the eye is related to the seed of eye consciousness and arises from it. The consciousness that arises for the sake of the eye is eye consciousness, because it is beneficial and unbeneficial. Thus, experiencing in accordance with consciousness, it becomes beneficial and harmful to the faculty, but not to the object. The consciousness that is the same as the eye is eye consciousness, because both belong to the category of sentient beings. Form does not necessarily belong to the category of sentient beings. Does the eye see forms, or does consciousness see forms? Because all phenomena have no agent, it should be understood that it is not one that sees, nor is it the other that sees, but seeing is established when there is an aggregation. Again, in six ways, it should be mainly understood that the eye sees forms, and not consciousness. What are the six consciousnesses? Because as the cause of arising, it is impossible to know from the eye. Because of its place, the basis of seeing is the eye. For the sake of entering without moving, the eye is always

Because they are of the same kind. In order to be independent, because it does not depend on the aggregation of causes arising in each moment. In order to be beautiful, because it makes the place beautiful. Because the scriptures say that the eyes can see all forms, as all that has been said is impossible for consciousness. This should be understood as a movement that occurs in many ways. Since the unconditioned is established for the realms and the sources, why is it not established for the aggregates? Because the aggregates have no meaning. Form and so on are included by aspects such as the past, and the meaning of accumulation is shown as the meaning of the aggregates, but it is not permanent, so the unconditioned is not established for the aggregates. Why are these dharmas explained separately from the perspective of realms, aggregates, and sources? Because it is to enable sentient beings to master the condensed and extensive explanations, and to generate wisdom. For example, when explaining the aggregates, form and consciousness are briefly explained, while in the realms and sources, they are divided into eleven and seven types, thereby explaining them in detail, just like how to combine them appropriately. There, feelings and so on that are explained in detail are summarized in the realm of dharmas and the sources in the realms and sources. Also, by establishing only the characteristics, the aggregates are explained. By establishing the grasper, the grasped, and the grasper, the realms are explained. The grasper becomes the gate of birth, and by establishing only the grasped and the grasper, it should be known that the sources are explained. Incidentally, this is the end. From here on, it should be regarded as explaining the meaning of the root text itself. What is the eye? What is the eye realm? Are the eye and the eye realm the same? What is the eye realm, is the eye also that? For the eye, there is also what is not the eye realm, namely the final eye of the Arhat. For the eye realm, there is also what is not the eye, namely the eye that is in the egg, in a paste-like state, in a flickering state, in a striped state, the eye that has not yet emerged while in the mother's womb, the blind eye, and the eye of an ordinary person born in the formless realm.
