O. Now, the meaning of oneself is like this: the object of the eye. Saying "exists" is to eliminate those non-perceptual things that are known in the world as things like vases, because they are merely imputed. Saying "appears" is to eliminate the objects that become invisible due to causes of invisibility such as obscuration. Saying "not mistaken" is to eliminate things like whirling firebrands, illusions, and mirages. Inference is trust in the remainder of perception. What is other than perception? It is the remainder that is not perception, and for the seer, the certainty that it exists together with it is previously well established. Because it is so in perception, therefore, from the remainder other than perception, the trust that arises, "Here, this exists together with that," that is the inference following the manifestation of perception, like seeing smoke and inferring fire. Reliable scripture is that which shows no contradiction with those two. What is the proximate cause? It is perception and inference, which are completely without contradiction or error. The scripture that makes one trust is because it is trustworthy. The adornment of speech is: what one possesses that makes the words of debate very beautiful. For example, knowing one's own and others' tenets, and having complete and abundant wording, fearlessness, steadfastness, harmony, and cutting off speech. Among these, knowing one's own and others' tenets is: starting from one's own and others' tenets, being able to explain words and meanings in a continuous sequence. Complete and abundant wording means avoiding faults in the speech that follows, and being without idle chatter and the like. Fearlessness means having obvious attachment to many examples, and being able to speak without fear or timidity even in a gathering of many wise people. Steadfastness means remaining steadfast after the words of the opponent have ended, and speaking calmly. Harmony means being in accord with the minds of the impartial and the opponent because of one's good nature. Cutting off speech means: cutting off subsequent speech, and leaving unfinished meanings in speech, and faults of speech. Those

There are three types of severance by cutting off speech. These are to be severed by cutting off speech. Among them, cutting off speech after it has occurred is: acknowledging one's own faults in speech, and acknowledging the virtues of others' speech. Acknowledging one's own and others' faults and virtues in speech through various means, such as saying "I am not good," and you say "You are good." Interruption of speech is like this: passing from one place to another, or speaking other words, as it is said in the sutras. Passing from one place to another is the way of speaking of outsiders, as it is said in the sutras, passing from one place to another, etc., are meaningless words that cause distraction. It is said in the sutras that the venerable Chhandaka (藏文:ཙྪནྡི་ཀ་,梵文天城体:च्छन्दक,梵文罗马拟音:cchandaka,汉语字面意思:阐提迦) should not argue with the heretics. In order to know what is not known in argument, that is, not to argue with those who do not know, as it is said. The faults of speech are: rambling, quarreling, unsuitable language, inappropriate, meaningless, untimely speech, instability, unclearness, and incoherent sentences. Among them, rambling is speaking extensively on various topics, abandoning the occasion. Quarreling is being distracted by anger and being distracted by joy. Unsuitable language is that which is not understood by the Dharma, meaning, retinue, and opponents. Inappropriate is that which is excessive, repetitive, or too little. Meaningless is to be viewed from ten aspects, namely, being without meaning, devoid of meaning, devoid of reason, the same as what is to be proven, and having consequences, because meaning is not observed. Because it is unrelated to meaning. Because it is uncertain. Because proof also needs to be proven. Improper, and not arising from an assembly, because it is in accordance with all speech. Untimely speech is speaking before or after, and speaking after is cowardly speech. Instability is reviling after making a vow, and making a vow after reviling, and becoming too hasty and unclear because of being too quick. Unclear speech is that which contradicts the characteristics of sound, and answering by repeating the previous sentence, and being based on skillful composition, and ultimately appearing in a vulgar way, etc.
