To start speaking when the conversation has ended, to speak inappropriately, and to belittle and insult the words of the opponent even when they have spoken well, this is the definition of "defamation." One also speaks harsh words, thereby disturbing the minds of the opponents and others, and one's own mind is disturbed by them, possessing these six faults. With near quiescence, speech is rare. For those who are not near quiescence, some may gain victory in arguing with others, and possessing the state of liberation, they may equally abide in their own minds, protect the minds of others, and protect their own minds, both of which are rare. Most of the time, when speaking, the mind is always thinking about how to make oneself victorious and the other defeated. If this thought exists, one will be tormented by the suffering of being completely burned. If this thought exists, one will not abide in happiness. Therefore, one cannot continuously engage in the aspect of virtue. Therefore, for the special qualities that should be attained, one will completely lose what has not yet been attained. What is the determination that requires flexible thinking? It is to express the meaning of the collection of names, the collection of words, and the collection of explanations as other meanings, completely changing their meaning. As it is said: "Mother and father are to be killed, the king and two who possess pure conduct, having destroyed the country and its retinue, that person will become pure." To completely transform the letters that express what is considered extremely shameful and sinful in the world into pure ones. What is known as extremely shameful in the world is the killing of superiors and the killing of great beings. Superiors also have two types, namely, individually determined ones and those common to the world. Those common to the world also have two types, namely, those who completely nurture and the objects of giving. Among them, the individually determined superiors are the father and mother. The one who nurtures is the king. The objects of giving are the Brahmins who possess pure conduct, because they are considered extremely pure. Killing all of these is called killing superiors. Killing great beings is "having destroyed the country and its retinue." The retinue should be understood as cows, horses, mules, and buffaloes, etc.

And so forth. How should these words be correctly and completely transformed? Words such as killing the mother are for completely transforming and abandoning craving and so on, that is, in order, craving and craving for karma, and consciousness together with grasping, views and discipline, and the holding of asceticism as supreme, and the six sense bases together with their objects, should be regarded as mothers and so on, because they are similar to them. Among them, craving is the cause of manifest accomplishment. Craving for karma is the cause of birth, and it should be regarded as a father in the way of generating the habit of meditation. From these two causes arises consciousness together with the grasping of karma. If that arises in that way, even if one desires liberation, the two holdings of supreme that believe in excellence and purity will be obstacles to attaining liberation. These two are similar to those who hold vows, and should be understood in this way, that is, in this way, attachment to excellence and purity is manifested. The place of that consciousness and the object of focus, the six sense bases together with their objects, should be understood. Again it is said: Disbelief and ingratitude, someone who does the work of breaking up a house, destroying opportunities and eating vomit, that is a supreme person. This verse is to completely transform the letters expressing bad meanings into supreme meanings. There are four kinds of badness in the world: bad deeds of mind, bad deeds of body, bad deeds of speech, and bad enjoyment. There are also two kinds of bad deeds of mind: not in accordance with entering into virtue, that is, not believing, because not believing that there is a next life and so on, so not engaging in giving and so on. In accordance with entering into non-virtue, that is, not repaying kindness, not considering previous kindness, not fearing evil deeds such as killing one's mother. Bad deeds of the body are: thieves who break into houses, because their lives are extremely vile. Bad deeds of speech are: being enthusiastic about lying and so on, and those who have such things should not be allowed to enter the Sangha and so on. Bad enjoyment is: dogs and crows and hungry ghosts and so on,
