With aspects of destruction, etc. (Thesis) is to show the meaning of establishing one's own desire, making it known to others. (If) establishment is not mentioned, then the fact that one's own side is already established is also shown to others, thus becoming a thesis. (If) the meaning of one's own desire is not mentioned, then the words establishing the other's side also become a thesis. (If) others are not mentioned, then even alone, those words become a thesis. (If) knowing is not mentioned, then the expression of the meaning of the body also becomes a thesis. (If) showing is not mentioned, then the listeners not understanding that meaning also becomes a thesis. If one establishes as shown, then all these faults will be eliminated, therefore, one should know this as establishment. The reason is that for the meaning unknown to the establisher himself, the cause of making him believe, that is, the visible and the invisible are declared. The meaning of the cause of making one believe is shown here as the meaning called reason. Thus, the visible and the invisible, by showing this, for the meaning unknown to the established himself, faith is generated, therefore, because it becomes the cause of declaration, it is called reason. The visible and the invisible should be known to be grasped by nature and manner. The example is to combine and declare things whose end is visible and whose end is invisible in the same way. In order to make the known aspect understand the unknown aspect, there is the word declaration. The near acquisition is that the remainder is similar to it, and also because its dharma is combined, it is declared in a manner consistent with the manner. Just as the meaning to be established is established by three parts, so also for the establishers similar to the remainder, also because the dharma of the established meaning is combined, it is declared in a manner consistent with the manner, showing the similarity as much as possible, which is the near acquisition. The conclusion is the declaration of final completion. Because this reason is completely reasonable, therefore, this is so, one should know this as the conclusion. These such as thesis are only examples, and should be well shown, for example, for the sake of debate, together with the refuter, the one who says no-self says the word "no-self", which is the thesis.

The fault of assuming the aggregates to be me is fourfold, which is because if I am assumed to be the nature of the aggregates, or the aggregates, or other than the aggregates, or without aggregates, then, if it is assumed to be the nature of the aggregates, then these aggregates arise dependently without autonomy and are of the nature of destruction, therefore it should not be my nature, so there is a fault. If it is assumed to be the aggregates, then, because relying on the impermanent aggregates, I will also become impermanent, so there is a fault. If it is assumed to be other than the aggregates, then I will be without a body and not attached, so there is a fault. If it is assumed to be without aggregates, then, since it is naturally liberated and unmixed, the effort to attain liberation becomes meaningless, so there is a fault. Now, just as assuming the past to be the present, this is a metaphor. If the past is assumed to be merely the nature of existence, then is it the nature of the present, or arising in the present, or other than arising in the present, or not relying on arising in the present? If it is assumed to be the nature of the present, then, because the arising of the present has not ceased, the nature of the past will also become the nature of arising that has not ceased, there is a fault. If it is assumed to be the present, then what has not ceased cannot be related to the nature of cessation, so there is a fault. If it is assumed to be other than the present, then if the present is abandoned, nothing can be observed, so assuming it is a fault. If it does not rely on the present, then even the unconditioned will become the past, so there is a fault. The past, because its nature has disappeared, is faulty by its nature. Therefore, assuming the present has a fault, which proves no-self, and because assuming the aggregates to be me has four faults, it is completely non-existent. In this way, by refuting the inverted view of self, and through this reasoning, it also similarly shows that permanence and so on do not exist, this is analogy. Because that is not so, therefore the five aggregates are from impermanence to no-self, this is the conclusion. Direct perception is self-meaningful and its appearance is not mistaken.
