What is the collection of determinations? It is the condensed form of the ten places of determination. What are the ten places? They are the determination of accomplishing actions, the determination of entering, the determination of faith, the determination of wisdom, the determination of truthful speech, the determination of thorough understanding, the determination of purification, the determination of realization, the determination of skillful differentiation of words, and the determination of spontaneous accomplishment and the accomplishment of all purposes through mere effort. What is the determination of accomplishing actions? It is the accomplishment of necessities such as the means of interdependent living in the world. What is the determination of entering? It is the analysis of which of the three vehicles one should enter and be placed in. What is the determination of faith? It is to have faith in accordance with how one has actually obtained it through the wisdom arising from hearing. What is the determination of wisdom? It is to fully measure the meaning of what came before and after through the wisdom arising from contemplation. What is the determination of truthful speech? It is to fully enjoy the Dharma with each other through the manner of questioning and cross-examining what has been heard and contemplated. What is the determination of thorough understanding? It is the path of seeing, because it thoroughly understands the truth. What is the determination of purification? It is the path of meditation, because it abandons all defilements. What is the determination of realization? It is the special path, because it realizes special qualities. What is the determination of skillful differentiation of words? It is the endless teaching of the Dharma through the means of realizing the second, third, fourth, and so on. What is the determination of spontaneous accomplishment and the accomplishment of all purposes through mere effort? It is the wisdom of the Tathagata, because without previous effort, it is also without effort, without attachment, and without obstruction in all purposes, because the wisdom without seeing enters into seeing. The determination of speech, speech, the vow of speech, the basis of speech, the adornment of speech, cutting off speech by interruption, what arises from speech, and the Dharma that is cherished from speech. What is it? It is speaking, as well as speaking beautifully, speaking disputatiously, speaking harshly, speaking concordantly, and speaking instructively. Among them, speaking refers to all expressions of words. Speaking beautifully refers to what is praised in the world. To proclaim in the world is to speak beautifully. Speaking disputatiously refers to dwelling in mutual disharmony. To argue about those contradictory things is to speak disputatiously. Speaking harshly refers to interacting with each other with rude words. Whoever speaks evil words is speaking harshly. Speaking concordantly refers to the definitive, correct words that are in accordance with the pure vision of wisdom. To speak in accordance is to establish with correct words that are in accordance. Speaking instructively refers to the teachings given to those whose minds are not equally settled, in order to settle their minds equally, and to attain liberation through settling the mind equally. To speak instructions for the sake of taming is to speak instructively. The objects of speaking are the king in attendance, as well as the place where the appointed ones gather, as well as assemblies, as well as companions who can be taken as standards, as well as ascetics, as well as Brahmins who are skilled in Dharma and meaning. For example, the king's palace, where the king himself is in attendance. The place where the appointed ones gather is where those appointed by the king gather. Assemblies refer to gatherings of merchants and so on. Companions who can be taken as standards refer to those whose words cannot be refuted by debaters and counter-debaters. Ascetics and Brahmins who are skilled in Dharma and meaning refer to those who are skilled in the words and meanings of such and such a treatise. The four aspects of speaking are establishment and proof. The basis of speaking is what serves as the place for speaking, such as establishment and proof. Establishment refers to nature and difference. Proof refers to the pledge, as well as the reason, as well as the example, as well as the application, as well as the conclusion, as well as direct perception, as well as inference, as well as trustworthy scripture. Among them, establishing nature refers to my nature, as well as the nature of Dharma, whether it exists or does not exist. Difference refers to my difference, as well as the difference of Dharma. Whether it has all passed away, or has not all passed away, whether it is permanent, or impermanent, whether it is form, or formless, and so on.
