Because there is no need to generate again the past roots of virtue. Regarding the small aspect of liberation, the Blessed One said: The correct view of worldly people, whoever possesses it greatly, will not fall into evil destinies even in thousands of lifetimes. Moreover, there are four aspects that accord with liberation: belonging to the occasion, arising from faith, arising from special desire, and arising from attainment. From the desire for virtuous Dharma to the holding, whatever is done for the sake of liberation belongs to the occasion. Whatever has faith in the teachings that are fully in accordance with this arises from faith. Having joy and faith, increasing the attention focused on liberation arises from special desire. From that, the certainty of generating what accords with the decisive aspect arises from attainment. There are six aspects that accord with the decisive aspect: conforming, special, fully realized, completely transformed into another, one life, and one seat. Among these, taking truth as the object, the root of virtue initially appearing in a small form is conforming. The intermediate becomes special, even more excellent than that. In that very life, the part of realizing the truth becomes very large, which is fully realized. Furthermore, those of uncertain lineage completely transform into Bodhisattvas, and those solitary Buddhas who, in another life, realize perfect enlightenment without a teacher, are completely transformed into others. Fully realizing in that very life is the one life. Fully realizing on that very seat is the one seat. The faith follower is the person who has accumulated merit, has dull faculties, and follows the teachings of others, practicing in order to realize the truth. The Dharma follower is the person who has accumulated merit, has sharp faculties, and follows the Dharma of truth that he has mastered, practicing in order to realize the truth. The believer,

What is the fruit stage of a person who follows faith? It is the one attained through seeing. What is the fruit stage of a person who follows the Dharma? It is the one who realizes through the body. What is realization through the body? It is the person who meditates on the eight liberations. Realization through the body is said to be the non-returner, because those who have attained liberation dwell having perfected it through the body. The eight liberations are observing forms, etc., which will be explained later. What is liberation through wisdom? It is the person whose defilements are exhausted, who is not a meditator on the eight liberations. It is because they have completely abandoned all obscurations of afflictions that are contrary to wisdom. What is liberation through both? It is the person whose defilements are exhausted, who is also a meditator on the eight liberations. Liberation through both is the one who is liberated from all afflictions and obscurations of meditative absorption. What is the fruit of stream-entry? It is the person who abides in the moments of ascertainment and the fifteen moments of the mind of the path of seeing. The moments in accordance with ascertainment are from a single seat until the first fruit is not attained. What is stream-enterer? It is the person who abides in the sixteen moments of the path of seeing. The path of seeing is entering into what has become certain as the truth, which is also the direct realization of the Dharma. Who is the one who has not attained the first fruit at the end of the path of seeing? It is the person who has not separated from desire for desires, who has entered into what has become certain as the truth and becomes a stream-enterer. One who gradually separates from desire from all sides is also said to be one who has not separated from desire for desires and enters into what has become certain as the truth. One who has separated from desire in general becomes a once-returner, having entered into what has become certain as the truth. If one has previously abandoned the six types of afflictions to be abandoned through cultivation, which operate in desire, through the worldly path, and has become separated from desire in general, and later enters into what is certain as the truth, then in the sixteen moments of the mind, they will become a once-returner.
