To subdue with power, how should one understand it as it is? Knowing a part of ignorance is being encompassed by the near afflictions. Time is until one does not abandon it. Untime is after that. Reason is in the place. Unreason is in the non-place. What is conceptual thought? Relying on mind or wisdom, seeking everywhere, expressing with intention, that is the coarse aspect arising with mind. Relying on mind or wisdom means: the stages and order of non-manifestation and manifestation. Expressing with intention in the manner of seeking everywhere. What is examination? Relying on mind or wisdom, expressing with intention of individual awareness, that is the peaceful aspect of mind. Relying on mind or wisdom means the stages and order of non-manifestation and manifestation. Expressing manifestly with intention in the manner of individual awareness. Abiding in contact and not abiding in contact are the actions of the basis of arising. That itself is conceptual thought and examination, and because of the connection, it is the coarse and subtle stages, and so on. Furthermore, virtuous dharmas are the actions of abandoning their own discordant aspects. Afflictions and near afflictions are the actions of severing between their own antidotes. For example, non-attachment thoroughly abandons attachment. With faith, thoroughly abandon lack of faith. The antidote to desire is non-attachment, therefore it severs the interval of its arising. Likewise, the near afflictions such as anger are also to be understood as severing the interval with antidotes such as loving-kindness. Non-associated with mind formations are what is obtained, and unconscious absorption, and cessation absorption, and the unconscious one, and the life faculty, and similarity, and birth, and aging, and abiding, and impermanence itself, and the collections of names, and the collections of words, and the collections of expressions, and individuality, and entering, and individually determining, and combining, and quickness, and order, and time, and place, and number, and gathering. Non-associated with mind formations are place and nature and

It should be understood that what is said is through examination. The samadhi of non-perception and the samadhi of cessation should also be explained through the ground, attention, basis, and those who are preceded by perception. Those who are without perception should also be explained through the remaining three, such as the basis, after abandoning attention. What is attainment? The increase and decrease of virtuous, non-virtuous, and indeterminate dharmas are called attainment, acquisition, and possession. Among them, by understanding virtuous, non-virtuous, and indeterminate dharmas, the basis is indicated. By "increase" and "decrease," the nature is indicated. Just as merely having a great increase is called having great faith, and so on. If there is a decrease, it is for the sake of smallness. By calling it "hearing, acquiring, and possessing," the imputation is indicated. Similarly, for others, it should be applied as appropriate. What is the samadhi of non-perception? It is separation from the desire of the Well-gone, not separated from the desire of the upper realms, with attention preceded by the perception of arising, for the cessation of mind and mental factors that are not stable, it is called the samadhi of non-perception. Separation from the desire of the Well-gone means separation from the desire of the third dhyana. Not separated from the desire of the upper realms means not separated from the desire of the fourth dhyana. Perception preceded means taking liberation as the preceding perception. Knowing the unstable means those included in the aspect of entering consciousness. Cessation means what is done by the mind of samadhi, at other times, all unstable arising of mind and mental factors, the distinction of the state of abiding in the cessation of arising. Because it is ceased by this, it is called cessation. What is the samadhi of cessation? It is separation from the desire of the sphere of nothingness, with attention preceded by the perception of pacification abiding, moving upwards to the peak of existence, for the cessation of mind and mental factors that are not stable, and also some of the stable ones, it is called the samadhi of cessation.
