That which does not regress is the perfection of meditative concentration. Taking well the cause and effect as they are in that very thing, and without holding to the view as supreme, thus, up to the perfection of wisdom, it should be applied as appropriate. The giving of fearlessness is giving in all ways, because it is giving in all places. The distinctions of that are: the distinction of intrinsic nature, the distinction of following, the distinction of conforming, and the distinction of arising. The distinction of arising. The intrinsic nature of giving and so forth are, in order: complete giving, miserliness, non-attention, delight in merit, abiding in mind, and thorough discernment. The following of giving and so forth is that the application of giving and so forth follows the other perfections, as before. The conforming of giving and so forth is causing to hold, praising and extolling, and rejoicing greatly. The arising of giving and so forth is establishing it in the mind-stream of others. The perfection of giving among them is the giving of material things. The other five are the giving of fearlessness. All are the giving of the sacred Dharma, because it arises in the mind-stream of others. The explanation that arises from having distinguished well is from understanding one to others, like this: Whatever is the perfection of giving, is that also the perfection of giving? It should be combined with the following words. Whatever is the perfection of morality, that is also the perfection of giving. There is the perfection of giving, but not the perfection of morality, which is said to be the perfection of giving that is encompassed by the perfection of morality. Likewise, until it is not encompassed by the perfection of wisdom, the words "Whatever is the perfection of giving" and so forth should be combined with the various following categories. Is everything that is giving the perfection of giving? Is everything that is a perfection giving? If asked in this way, it becomes three distinctions. That which is giving,

That which is not transcendent is the giving that is not fully dedicated to the Great Enlightenment. There are also those that are giving and also transcendent, namely, the giving that is fully dedicated to the Great Enlightenment. There are also those that are neither giving nor transcendent, namely, all dharmas except for teachings. Similarly, starting from the perfection of wisdom, each one should be combined into three categories. Whatever is the universal practice of giving, does it all generate merit arising from the cause of the perfection of giving? There are four possibilities. The first possibility is the practice of giving that is not fully dedicated to the Great Enlightenment. The second possibility is to cause others to truly uphold the perfection of giving, and to praise and rejoice in their hearts. The third possibility is through giving that is fully dedicated to the Great Enlightenment. The fourth possibility is other than these. Similarly, up to the perfection of wisdom. Why is vastness and profundity also shown in the exceedingly vast? Because the omniscience itself is vast and profound. In particular, the reason why vastness and profundity are also shown in the exceedingly vast is that its fruit, omniscience itself, is supremely vast and profound, and should be regarded as a cause consistent with the fruit. Why is it that in the exceedingly vast, some sentient beings do not believe in or are afraid of vastness and profundity? Because they are separated from the nature of dharma, have not generated roots of virtue, and are completely seized by evil companions. Among these, the nature of dharma refers to lineage, because it is one's own nature. Therefore, because there is no lineage of Bodhisattvas, and because their minds are naturally inferior, they do not believe in the teachings of profundity and so forth, and become unwholesome. Even if they are of that lineage, they have not generated the initial roots of virtue such as aspirations, starting from the Great Enlightenment. Even if they have generated such roots of virtue, they are completely seized by the mind of abandoning the Great Vehicle. Some say that even if they believe, they will definitely not change. Why is it that in the exceedingly vast, some sentient beings, even if they believe, will definitely not be liberated?
