If someone asks, what is meant by the extremely vast Bodhisattva Vehicle Perfections category? The answer is: There, starting from showing the number of perfections, it is to clearly show the relationship of one to another. There are two kinds of numbers: countable numbers and just-that numbers. The so-called "six perfections" are countable numbers. The Bodhisattva path manifests higher and definitive goodness, possessing all aspects, because the two are summarized by three and three. These very six perfections, neither many nor few, are just-that numbers. Manifesting higher has three aspects: great enjoyment, great body, and great direction. Among them, because generosity obtains great enjoyment, the fruit of the perfection of generosity is great enjoyment. Among them, because ethics obtains the perfect body of good rebirths. The fruit of the perfection of ethics is the body itself. Because patience obtains the fruit of going before all births, the fruit of the perfection of patience is great direction. The path of definitive goodness also has three aspects: the means of subduing afflictions and applying to virtue; the means of maturing sentient beings; and the means of accomplishing the Buddha and the true Dharma. If any of these is missing, the definitive goodness of the Bodhisattva will not arise. Among them, the means of maturing sentient beings is the perfection of meditation. Relying on meditation, those with clairvoyance mature sentient beings. Furthermore, as a means of non-abiding Nirvana, it is also these six perfections. Bodhisattvas turn back from abiding in Nirvana and should fully take up the appearances in Samsara. Turning back from abiding in Samsara, there should be no afflictions there. Therefore, the three are the place for obtaining higher manifestation. The three are the means of no affliction. It should be understood in order according to the previous manner. For the means of completely no affliction, diligence cultivates the antidote. Meditation

The earth suppresses afflictions. Wisdom thoroughly destroys latent tendencies. Furthermore, there are other categories for the sake of benefiting sentient beings and as antidotes to afflictions. Among them, generosity is how bodhisattvas benefit sentient beings by helping them acquire resources, thus taking care of them. Ethics is how they take care of them by not being impoverished, harmed, or living without means. In order, it is to not harm enjoyment, body, and mind. Patience is how they take care of them by not minding poverty and harm. Because they do not mind the harm of desire for the enjoyment of others, etc., these three are how they take care of them. Diligence, even when suppressing afflictions, applies them to the side of virtue. Meditation suppresses afflictions. Wisdom thoroughly destroys latent tendencies. These three should be understood as antidotes to afflictions. So, what are the characteristics of the bodhisattva's pāramitā vehicle? The perfection of generosity is when a bodhisattva abiding in the nature of a bodhisattva, relying on a mind preceded by compassion, completely gives away all possessions, body, speech, and mind actions. By doing so, the characteristics of the perfection of generosity should be understood as being shown by lineage, aspiration, intention, object, and essence. For example, the nature of a bodhisattva is lineage. The mind of enlightenment is aspiration. A mind preceded by compassion is intention. Completely giving away all possessions is the object. The actions of body, speech, and mind are the essence. Similarly, the perfection of wisdom and so forth should also be understood extensively. The perfection of ethics is when a bodhisattva abiding in the nature of a bodhisattva, abiding in the mind of enlightenment, with a mind preceded by compassion, truly takes and completely protects all vows and commitments, body, speech, and mind actions. The perfection of patience is when a bodhisattva abiding in the nature of a bodhisattva
