This should be done. As the venerable Ananda said: Venerable Shariputra, a monk who possesses five qualities should quickly grasp, should grasp much, should grasp well, and what is grasped should not be forgotten. In the sutras, these five qualities and the four, such as quick grasping, should be understood appropriately. How is one skilled in the Dharma? Because of much hearing. Being skilled in the Dharma is to grasp quickly, because when one hears much, the words and letters are not confused. How is one skilled in meaning? Because one knows the characteristics of the Dharma Abhidharma and the Vinaya Abhidharma. Being skilled in meaning is to grasp much, because one knows the characteristics of the Dharma Abhidharma and so on, because the scriptures and so on are very condensed in the context of the explanation of the aggregates and elements and so on. How is one skilled in letters? Because one knows the good letters of definitive words. How is one skilled in definitive words? Knowing that one does not cling to the apparent meaning of the words agreed upon by me and my fellow countrymen, but follows and establishes names. Being skilled in letters and being skilled in definitive words will lead to good grasping, because one can correctly grasp the meaning of the scriptures. How is one skilled in the intention of the past and future extremes? Because one knows what is grasped in the past extreme and what must necessarily arise in the future extreme. Being skilled in the intention of the past and future extremes, what is grasped will not be forgotten, because relying on the Dharma grasped earlier, one knows the intention of what will arise later, and understands and takes its essence. How does one abide in the Dharma? Not relying on meditation, but only on the practice of hearing and thinking, is not abiding in the Dharma, and not relying on hearing and thinking, but only on the practice of meditation, is not abiding in the Dharma, but relying on both, abiding in both, is being skilled in the Dharma. In the sutra called "The Monk Who Abides in the Dharma," the Blessed One has taught that one can abide in the Dharma through all of hearing, thinking, and meditation, but not through just any one practice. Grasping, and verbal expression, and

It should be observed that things like explanations arise from hearing. Among them, fully comprehending, reciting, speaking much, thinking much, only these are entering into hearing and thinking, but not entering into practice, because yoga and the like are abandoned. Therefore, it is established as not abiding in the Dharma. It should be observed that those who engage in samadhi and do not cling to contentment arise from practice. Some people do not rely on hearing and thinking, but only engage in practice, that is also established as not abiding in the Dharma. Therefore, the Blessed One, addressing the monks who abide in the Dharma, said: It is imperative to rely on the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and practicing, and to abide in both, because it is abiding in the Dharma. For example, monks extensively say that they fully comprehend the scriptures, the narratives of songs, the Dharma of prophecies, etc., and then say that they do not abandon yoga, etc. Not abandoning yoga, etc., refers to those who engage in samadhi and do not cling to contentment, showing that it arises from practice. Engaging means constantly familiarizing, engaging with respect, and engaging without reversing, it should be observed in this way. Not clinging to contentment means not tasting flavors and further engaging in tranquility, it should be observed in this way. There are two types, constantly familiarizing and engaging with respect are encompassed, this is shown by "not abandoning yoga." By encompassing engaging without reversing, it is shown as not abandoning attention. Not clinging to contentment, this shows not abandoning the tranquility of the mind within, it should be understood as not tasting its flavors and not abandoning further engaging in tranquility. Why is the extremely vast called the Bodhisattva Paramita Vehicle's Abhidharma? Because there the number of Paramitas is shown, the characteristics are shown, the order is shown, the definitive words are shown, the practice is shown, the detailed distinctions are shown, the summary is shown, the dissimilar aspects are shown, the praise of virtues is shown, and one is determined by one. Why is the Sutra Pitaka
