Actually, you are just regarding the innocent as guilty. Like this, two consciousnesses arise simultaneously. Why is that? Just like some people want to see simultaneously, from wanting to consciousness. Initially, it is impossible for any one consciousness to arise. Just like there, attention, root, and object are also without difference. If consciousnesses do not arise simultaneously, why doesn't the mind consciousness, which follows along with the eye consciousness and so on, become clear? Just like when recalling the past experienced object, the mind consciousness that follows is not clear. The mind that now dwells on the present object is not unclear in that way. Therefore, simultaneous arising and unclear mind consciousness are also possible. Why are the six aggregates of consciousness not seeds of each other? Just like non-virtue arises below virtue, virtue arises below non-virtue, the undeclared arises below these two, the inferior realm arises below the intermediate realm, the excellent realm arises below the intermediate realm, similarly, the inferior realm arises below the excellent realm, the contaminated arises below the uncontaminated, the contaminated arises below the uncontaminated, the mundane arises below the supramundane, and the mundane arises below the supramundane. Those like that cannot become seeds. The continuum of the lineage has been interrupted for a long time, and it will arise after a long time, so it is also impossible. If consciousnesses do not arise simultaneously, why would karma not exist? Just like in brief, there are four kinds of karma: the consciousness of the vessel world, the consciousness of the place, the consciousness of self-grasping, and the consciousness of the object. These consciousnesses are directed towards arising simultaneously in one instant. It is impossible for one consciousness to produce such different kinds of karma in one instant. If there is no alaya consciousness, why would bodily sensations not exist? Just like some people with minds that are appropriate or inappropriate, or

Is it thus that one discriminates? Is the mind placed in equipoise? Even if the mind is not placed in equipoise, it is alright. Those various, diverse, and numerous experiences that arise in the body, one should not fixate on them as objects. Therefore, the ālaya-vijñāna exists. If the ālaya-vijñāna did not exist, why would it be impossible to enter into samādhi without mind? Like this, when the consciousness that has entered into the samādhi of non-perception departs from the body, when would it depart? Therefore, it would become the time of death. As the Blessed One said, 'His consciousness has not separated from the body.' If the ālaya-vijñāna did not exist, why would dying and transference also be impossible? Like this, when the consciousness of death causes heat to dissipate and abandons the upper or lower part of the body, it is not that the consciousness of mind never arises. Therefore, the ālaya-vijñāna is separated from the very holding of the body, so the body's heat dissipates, and the body's lack of sensation can also be an object. But it is not separated from the consciousness of mind, so it is also unreasonable. The mind should be understood to be indicated by the definitive word, the object, the similar possession, and the time of arising. When karma manifests, it does not exist because it knows the ultimate truth, and because the arising of self-grasping is universal, and because it is extremely incompatible. Because the learner has not abandoned it, after that it also arises from the ālaya-vijñāna. Because the samādhi of cessation is more peaceful than the samādhi of non-perception, it should be known that it is incompatible with universal arising. That which has just ceased is also considered mind, so the term 'mind that has just ceased' is used. Consciousness should be understood to be established separately by location, object, and nature. The characteristics of the dhātus and āyatanas cannot be established separately, because when explaining the skandhas, it is to indicate the eye and so on. Therefore, they are specifically distinguished from the skandhas, and the dhātus are established. Specifically distinguished from the dhātus, the āyatanas are established. That which is not included by the skandhas, the unconditioned, is eightfold.
