If the (tongue) comes into contact with the taste of food, it should be understood that the consciousness of the tongue and body always arise simultaneously. Sound, because it is intermittent, does not travel to other places by means of a continuous transmission from one place to another, but remains in its own place and arises momentarily. Just as the light of a lamp increases, the increase of sound should also be viewed in the same way. Even if it is close, if there is an obstruction in between, the sound will not be heard clearly, because there is an obstacle, so it should be known that the sound will emerge faintly from the cracks in the wall. Among these six consciousnesses, how many are with conceptualization? How many are without conceptualization? In terms of three conceptualizations, only mind consciousness is with conceptualization. The three conceptualizations are the conceptualization of nature, the conceptualization of recollection, and the conceptualization of manifestation. Among these, the conceptualization of nature refers to the conceptualization of the form of one's own characteristics when experiencing the formations that arise in this way. The conceptualization of recollection refers to the conceptualization of the formations that have been previously experienced. The conceptualization of manifestation refers to the conceptualization of clearly recognizing past, future, and present hidden things. There are also seven conceptualizations: the conceptualization that arises naturally towards the object, conceptualization with signs, conceptualization without signs, conceptualization that seeks universally, conceptualization that distinguishes individually, and the conceptualization of the form of afflictive and non-afflictive. Among these, the first conceptualization refers to the collection of the six consciousnesses, because they do not clearly grasp the object, but naturally enter their own objects in their own way. Conceptualization with signs refers to the conceptualization of nature and recollection, because they clearly grasp present and past objects. Conceptualization without signs refers to the conceptualization of imagining future objects. The remaining conceptualizations should be understood as the nature of the conceptualization of manifestation. For example, sometimes one clearly recognizes and seeks universally, sometimes one distinguishes individually, and sometimes one becomes afflictive.

Sometimes it is not afflicted. When the consciousness that distinguishes each of the forms, etc., why is it not called eye consciousness, etc., but called form consciousness, etc.? Because the combination of five words is reasonable, but the words of form, etc., are unreasonable. How is it? Consciousness on the eye is eye consciousness, because consciousness arises on the object of the place. Because if that exists, then that also exists. For example, if there is an eye, then the eye consciousness of those who are not blind will arise. Even in the dark, they can see. Even if it is assumed that there is form, it does not necessarily arise, because the blind cannot see. Eye consciousness is eye consciousness, because even if form does not change, consciousness will change due to its influence. For example, if one has yellow eye disease, even for blue forms, etc., the eye will see yellow. Consciousness arising from the eye is eye consciousness. The eye is related to the seed of eye consciousness, because it arises from that. Consciousness for the eye is eye consciousness, because it benefits it. In this way, the feeling that is simultaneous with consciousness is beneficial or harmful to the sense faculty, but not to the object. Consciousness that is the same as the eye is eye consciousness, because both belong to sentient beings. Form does not necessarily belong to sentient beings. Does the eye see forms, or does consciousness see? Because dharmas have no agent, it should be known that neither one sees nor the other sees. It is only from the aggregate that seeing can be imputed. Furthermore, it should be mainly known that the eye sees form through six ways. Not through consciousness. What are the six ways? Because it is the cause of arising, it arises from the eye. Because it is its place, the support of seeing is the eye. Because of entering without moving, the eye is always of the same kind. Because of entering independently, it is momentary.
