It is for the sake of. How is it called liberation? Because it is liberated from the obscuration of transformation. The so-called perception of formlessness internally is because, relying on the absorption of formlessness, the perception of form is completely destroyed? Or in order to establish the perception of formlessness. For the viewer, it is called manifesting perception, that's how it is said. The rest is the same as before. The liberation of ugliness is realized by the body, and abiding in perfection is because, for ugly and non-ugly forms, relying on mutually dependent perceptions and mutually compliant perceptions, one obtains mutually identical perceptions. Like this, relying on ugly forms, it becomes non-ugly for others, and relying on non-ugly forms, it becomes ugly, but without reliance, it is not. If one sees things of the same kind, the thoughts of ugliness and non-ugliness will not arise. Similarly, for ugly things, non-ugly things also follow. For non-ugly things, ugly things also follow. What is called ugliness is only an examination, because it is contained in thirty-six impure substances such as hair. In this way, all forms are mixed together, and one is convinced by the perception of the aspect of ugliness itself having the same taste. Just like that, obtaining mastery over the desire to believe in forms, etc., one can eliminate the obscuration of transformation for ugliness and non-ugliness, and there one can eliminate the obscuration of arising all afflictions. What are all the afflictions of transformation? For the transformation of ugly forms, it is attachment. For the transformation of non-ugly forms, it is displeasure. The four formless realms, such as the sphere of infinite space, are the undefiled compliant purity of the noble hearers, and those are called obtaining liberation, in order to be liberated from tasting its flavor. The liberation of peace is the complete transcendence of all forms, and those formless ones, non-attachment to those, is complete purity. Its obscuration is tasting the flavor of formlessness. Cessation of perception and feeling.

The place is the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. Because there are no mind and mental factors, there are no objects, aspects, and companions. Its nature is the cessation of mind and mental factors. It also dwells in accordance with liberation, and when the minds and mental factors of the hearers who have transformed their place with the supramundane path do not arise, it is extremely peaceful, and the afflicted mind does not arise at all. Because the noble ones abide by these, these are called the eight liberations in which the noble ones abide. Among them, the noble ones abide many times in two abidings, the third and the eighth, because they are supreme. Therefore, it is said that those two are realized by the body and dwell in perfection, but not the others, because for the liberation of form and formlessness, the obstacles are completely abandoned in order. In another case, it is because the transformation of the place of those two is the realization of perfection. Those eight victories are: with the perception of inner form, looking at the outer small forms, beautiful colors, unpleasant colors, ugly and beautiful, and overcoming those forms, knowing the victory, seeing the victory, arising such a thought, this is the first victory. With the perception of inner form, looking at the outer large forms, beautiful colors, unpleasant colors, ugly and beautiful, and overcoming those forms, knowing the victory, seeing the victory, arising such a thought, this is called the second victory, these two victories arise from the liberation of "those with form viewing forms." With the perception of inner formlessness, looking at the outer small forms, beautiful colors, unpleasant colors, ugly and beautiful, and overcoming those forms, knowing the victory, seeing the victory, arising such a thought, this is the third victory.

Perceiving formlessness, one contemplates external great forms, beautiful in color, unpleasant in color, bad, and good, and knowing, subdues those forms, and seeing, subdues with knowledge. When such a perception arises, this is called the fourth overcoming. These two overcomings arise from the liberation of contemplating external forms with the perception of internal formlessness. Thus, the four overcomings should be understood by the two liberations. Perceiving formlessness, one contemplates external blue forms, blue in color, appearing blue, emitting blue light. For example, flax flowers, or fine blue cloth made in the place of Varanasi (Vārāṇasī), blue in color, appearing blue, emitting blue light. Similarly, perceiving formlessness, one contemplates external blue forms, blue in color, appearing blue, emitting blue light, and knowing, subdues those forms, and seeing, subdues with knowledge. When such a perception arises, this is called the fifth overcoming. Perceiving formlessness, one contemplates external yellow forms, yellow in color, appearing yellow, emitting yellow light. For example, Dongka flowers, or fine yellow cloth made in the place of Varanasi (Vārāṇasī), yellow in color, appearing yellow, emitting yellow light. Similarly, perceiving formlessness, one contemplates external yellow forms, yellow in color, appearing yellow, emitting yellow light, and contemplates these forms, and knowing, subdues, and seeing, subdues with knowledge. When such a perception arises, this is called the sixth overcoming. Perceiving formlessness, one contemplates external red forms, red in color, appearing red, emitting red light. For example, Bandhujivaka flowers, or fine red cloth made in the place of Varanasi (Vārāṇasī), red in color, appearing red, emitting red light.
