Until the state of peace. Thus, For those endowed with discipline, giving benefits, but discipline can diminish them, so giving becomes completely pure. Thus, for the Bodhisattva who receives, providing comfort with resources free from harm, it should be understood that through the power of discipline, giving becomes completely pure. Similarly, for those endowed with patience, even if harmed by others, the root of the training is not destroyed, so discipline becomes completely pure. Having initiated diligence, for the sake of the power of joy, those who have committed to samsara easily endure the suffering of leading beings astray, so patience becomes completely pure. The meditator, with happiness and joy, combines all virtuous dharmas, so diligence becomes completely pure. Having initiated diligence, those with wisdom, having observed many aspects of the Dharma, pacify within, and through the increase of samadhi, meditation becomes completely pure. For it is said in verse: Without wisdom, there is no meditation. It should be understood in the order of grossness, and also in order, according to the sequence. Giving is the grossest of all, so giving is established first. After that, discipline is gross through patience and so on. Similarly, through wisdom, up to the grossness of meditation. Wisdom is the subtlest of all, so it is established last of all. The definition is, why is giving called the Perfection of Giving? It is because giving is vast, without fault, and without defilement, that it is called the Perfection of Giving. Among these, giving is vast because it gives all internal and external things, and because it gives for a long time. Without fault, because it has abandoned faults such as seeking everywhere with harm. As it is said in the Sutra Taught by the Noble Inexhaustible Intellect, beginning with the exhaustion of giving: The giving of the sons of the venerable Sharadvati, the Bodhisattvas, is also inexhaustible. Why? Because it is immeasurable. The purification of the giving of the sons of the venerable Sharadvati, the Bodhisattvas, is also immeasurable, life and
