Because these are all established collections of names and so on, it is necessary to examine whether the self-nature of these is completely established. To seek things everywhere is like saying collections of names and so on, contemplating whether the self-nature of the aggregates and so on is completely established, which is a synonym for "pervasive contemplation." To pervasively seek the establishment of self-nature is to contemplate the connection between speech and what is to be said, merely taking the name of the establishment of self-nature as the cause, that is, the connection between speech and what is to be said is the cause of contemplation. Just like this, for the function of names, merely hearing the speech, one generates contemplation of what is to be said through recollection. If one focuses on what is to be said, contemplation of the speech also arises. Like this, for things that are known to be connected in this way, merely establishing them as the self-nature of the eyes and so on, is to pervasively contemplate the speech of meat, fragrance, taste, etc., becoming the cause of names, which is called pervasively seeking the establishment of self-nature. To pervasively seek the establishment of distinctions refers to the same connection between speech and what is to be said, such as permanence and impermanence, superior and unsurpassed, form and formlessness, visibility and invisibility, etc., merely taking the name as the cause of the distinctive self-nature. Knowing reality as it is, the basis refers to those who, through various diligent efforts, know that names and so on are unobtainable. The yogic ground of diligence in samadhi on the Dharma has five aspects, namely the basis and so on. Among them, the basis refers to how one focuses on extensive learning, thereby transforming it into a place of tranquility and insight, which is the basis. This also refers to the manifestation of the truth through accumulating merit, that is, grasping through hearing the sutras and so on. Generation refers to properly focusing on this, that is, holding the mind in a way that does not invert the extensive learning, in the way of thinking about the meaning. Like a mirror, it refers to the samadhi with characteristics that focuses on the extensive learning itself, which is a synonym for "what is to be known is in accordance with things, like an image."

Just like a mirror, it should be understood that it can fully reflect the image of what is to be known. Appearance means knowing that the object of grasping and the grasper are unattainable, because it arises manifestly, so it is included in the path of seeing. If a Bodhisattva yogi diligently applies himself to this, how can he touch the unattainable? A Bodhisattva who has accumulated the accumulations of merit and wisdom, after countless eons have passed, hears the Dharma that corresponds to the realization of suchness, properly applies his mind, and practices samadhi. In this way, with a mind in equipoise, he meditates based on whatever image is to be known. Seeing that the mind in equipoise is not other than the image, he reverses the perception of the image as an object, and only holds its form as a manifestation of his own mind. At this time, because he abides in only his own mind, he becomes abiding within the mind, and thus thoroughly realizes that the object of grasping does not exist in any way. After that, because the object of grasping does not exist, the grasper is also not completely established, and thus he also thoroughly realizes that it does not exist. After that, in their respective natures, he is separated from the attachment to the nature of both, and thus comprehends the absence of focus. Because of this, the Bhagavan said: The Bodhisattva abides in equipoise, because he sees the image of the mind. Thus he spoke extensively. The place is the transformed place, because it is separated from the bad realms, it is called the completely pure place, this is a synonym. It should be understood that this Yogachara Bhumi is shown by cause and effect, in which the ground and the like show the cause, and the last one shows the effect. Venerable Kungawo said: Venerable Shariputra, a monk with five qualities can quickly retain. As it is said in the sutra, with these five qualities one can quickly retain, etc., it should be understood accordingly. How can one who is skilled in the Dharma quickly retain? Because of much hearing, the words and letters are mostly familiar. One who is skilled in meaning can retain much, because he knows the characteristics of Dharma Abhidhamma and the like, and on the basis of topics such as aggregates and realms, he can summarize many words.
