It is because it arises from the place. External feelings, etc., are those that arise depending on the external body, because they are based on form, etc., and arise from the place of others. Internal and external feelings, etc., are those that arise depending on the internal and external body, because they are based on the external birth place existing in one's own continuum, and on the internal birth place existing in the continuum of others. Following the feelings, etc., is also the same, appropriately combined, it is said that meditating without difference from what appears in the mind. These nine, such as desire, are the limbs of mindfulness. Discouragement is laziness due to thinking of oneself as inferior in order to obtain distinction. Being completely distressed by harm is the inability to bear the harm of mosquitoes, flies, etc. Being content with a little is turning back, saying that this little virtue is enough. Being remorseful for falling into sin is acting without knowing in going and returning, etc., violating the previous training and regretting it later. Abandoning diligence is not bringing to an end the application to how the virtue was started due to the fault of carelessness. The fruit is, in order, abandoning the perversions of impurity, suffering, impermanence, and self for those who abide in mindfulness, because of meditating on ugliness. Whatever is felt, it is because of knowing that it is suffering. Because of knowing that with the difference of place and object, etc., consciousness changes to another in each moment. Because of completely knowing that defilement and purification are only dharma, without an agent. Furthermore, the fruit of these is to enter the four truths in order, entering the truth of suffering with mindfulness of the body, because the body is the nature of the suffering of conditioning, completely distinguished by bad states. Thus, extreme habituation, which is the antidote to it, will arise as special in the body itself. Entering the truth of origin with mindfulness of feeling, because existence in contact, etc., is the place of feelings such as pleasure

Because of this. With regard to mindfulness of mind, it enters into the truth of cessation, because it sees that there is no self and only consciousness, so it will not be afraid of nirvana by clinging to the annihilation of self. With regard to mindfulness of dharma, it enters into the truth of the path, because it abandons the dharma of the unfavorable side and relies on the dharma of the favorable side. Moreover, the results of these should be understood in order as being separated from body, feeling, mind, and dharma, because practicing them can free one from the bad states of body and so on. Furthermore, the first object of the right abandonments is the arising of the unfavorable side, so in order to abandon the sins and unwholesome dharmas that have arisen, desire is generated. The second object is the unfavorable side that has not arisen, the third object is the favorable side that has not arisen, and the fourth object is the favorable side that has arisen, which should be combined as it appears in the sutras. The words "generating desire" and so on, completely show the practice of diligence with its basis. Among them, the basis is desire, because it precedes the initiation of diligence. When one attends to the characteristics of calm abiding and only cultivates the faultless favorable side, it is called effort. When near afflictions of sinking arise, in order to dispel them, one makes the mind blaze with joy and other attentions, and when near afflictions of agitation arise, one holds the mind by way of internalizing, it is called initiating diligence. Therefore, in order to show the means of dispelling sinking and agitation, it is said after that to hold the mind firmly and to settle it firmly. The result is that the first and second of the right abandonments are the complete deterioration of the unfavorable side, because these two cause the sins and unwholesome dharmas that have arisen and not arisen to deteriorate in their respective ways. The third is the attainment of the favorable side, so it can generate the unarisen wholesome dharmas. The fourth is the increase due to obtaining the favorable side, so it abandons the wholesome dharmas that have arisen.
