Furthermore, these two instances of patience and wisdom are considered in terms of the purity of the path of complete knowledge and abandonment in sequence. It should be understood as being without dust and free from defilement. The so-called seeing the Dharma, etc., should also be understood as referring to the path of seeing itself. Because the tamers proclaim after "manifestly realizing the truth." Among them, the patience towards the Dharma sees the Dharma, because they truly realize it. The wisdom towards the Dharma attains the Dharma, because those with wisdom towards the Dharma manifestly attain the transformation of the basis. The patience of subsequent reflection knows the Dharma, because they know that these two are the cause of the noble Dharma. The wisdom of subsequent reflection realizes the Dharma, because they perfect all that is to be known. All patience and wisdom transcend doubt, because having obtained the fruit of the supramundane path, they have no doubt that they will obtain what they have long desired. All transcend doubt about the attainment of others, because at that time, there is no doubt that others will also attain superior results. Cultivating the path does not depend on others, because even without receiving the teachings of others, one is wise oneself. Not being led astray by others is because, having known and first attained, one will not be taken away from the teachings of the teacher by other non-Buddhists, even in other lives. Obtaining fearlessness towards the Dharma is because, starting from attainment, one has no timidity in one's heart towards all the Dharma that should be asked and the Dharma that should be proclaimed, just like those who crave evil and reveal their pride. Sixth Chapter. The path of cultivation is in accordance with the manifest realization of the truth by the noble Hearers. Before that is entering the stream, because it has abandoned the remaining connections. That is the mundane path, etc. Among them, the mundane path is the dhyanas and the formless absorptions. These dhyanas and formless absorptions should also be understood from the perspectives of all-pervading defilement, pure division, establishment, and purity. What is all-pervading defilement? In the sutras,

The four roots that are not shown are desire, view, pride, and ignorance. Because they completely defile the mind with afflictions, all afflictions and near afflictions that are practiced in the form and formless realms through the gate of afflictive meditation will not be shown in the scriptures. Among them, desire is defiled by the complete defilement of tasting flavors, because it makes one taste the bliss of extreme subdual. View is completely defiled by the meditator who is mainly of views, because it relies on meditation to generate views such as discrimination of the past extreme. Pride is completely defiled by the meditator who is mainly of pride, because if he obtains a superior state, he will become arrogant. Ignorance is completely defiled by the meditator who is mainly of doubt, because only those who desire liberation will doubt whether obtaining this superior state is liberation or not. What is purification? It is the pure meditation and the formless realm of the mundane world, because it is virtuous and free from all entangling stains, therefore it is called purification. What is establishment? Meditation is established as four kinds by the difference of limbs, samadhi, measure, and designation of names. The formless realm has three kinds except for limbs. Based on what, even though there are other dharmas, only discrimination and so on are established as the limbs of meditation? Because only by these can the limbs of antidote, benefit, and the basis of both be perfected. In the first dhyana, investigation and analysis are the limbs of the antidote, because they abandon discrimination of desire, malice, and harm, and so on. Joy and happiness are the limbs of benefit, because after investigation and analysis have acted as the antidote, one can obtain the joy and happiness born from being separated from those unfavorable qualities. One-pointedness of mind is the limb of the basis of both, because by the power of samadhi, investigation and so on can arise.

Therefore. Similarly, in the second dhyana, inner clarity is the limb of the antidote, because it acts as an antidote to vitarka and vicara. Joy, happiness, and one-pointedness of mind itself are the same as before for the remaining two limbs. Equanimity, disgust, and mindfulness in the third dhyana are the limbs of the antidote, because they act as an antidote to joy. Happiness and one-pointedness of mind itself are the same as the remaining two limbs and their order. Purity of equanimity and purity of mindfulness in the fourth dhyana are the limbs of the antidote, because they act as an antidote to happiness. Neither suffering nor happiness is the limb of benefit. One-pointedness of mind itself is the limb of the abode of those two. If asked, how does the first dhyana have seven types of meditative attention? The attention of the meditative ground, which is the complete understanding of the coarse characteristics by viewing faults, etc., in desires, etc., because without it, the first dhyana is the nature of peace. This is called the attention of completely understanding the characteristics, which should be understood as mixed with hearing and thinking. After that, transcending hearing and thinking, in the manner of meditating on one, meditating on shamatha and vipassana by focusing on the characteristics of its coarse and peaceful nature, and also how to completely eliminate, believing in coarse and peacefulness itself, this is called arising from belief. Because of familiarizing with it, the attention that possesses the path of abandoning only at the beginning is arising from extreme solitude, because it has abandoned the great aspect of afflictions, and is separated from the evil destinies of its aspects. The yogi then becomes happy to abandon, and sees abandonment as a benefit, touching the joy and happiness of extreme solitude, gradually becoming pleasant, in order to be free from dullness, sleep, and agitation, he makes attention with extreme joy, this is called collecting joy. Thus, being well entered into it, because it relies on combining it with the aspect of virtue, therefore the pervasive entanglements of afflictions that walk in the desire realm will not pervasively arise, so it is abandoned.
