There are sixteen moments, namely the forbearance and knowledge of Dharma and subsequent awareness. Among them, the Dharma-knowledge forbearance of suffering is the path of application, which is the wisdom that discerns the Dharma such as the sutras concerning the truth of suffering. By taking it up through proper attention, the transcendental wisdom that manifests its suchness on the truth of suffering existing in one's own continuum arises, which is the nature of correct observation. Thus, by seeing suffering, one can thoroughly abandon the twenty-eight latent tendencies of the three realms that should be abandoned. Therefore, it is called the Dharma-knowledge forbearance of suffering. Because this forbearance can abandon the afflictions that should be abandoned by seeing suffering, therefore, after transforming into a state, immediately experiencing any wisdom that has transformed into that state is called the Dharma-knowledge of suffering. These first two, forbearance and knowledge, are the cause of arising and learning all noble Dharmas, because from them these noble Dharmas can arise correctly. Therefore, these two are the cause of all noble Dharmas, therefore, with it as the object, the uncontaminated wisdom that manifests in each person is the knowledge-forbearance of the subsequent awareness of suffering. The experience of the knowledge-forbearance of subsequent awareness and wisdom is called the wisdom of subsequent awareness. There are two objects of the transcendental path, namely suchness and true wisdom. Among them, the object of the path of the Dharma-knowledge aspect is suchness. The object of the wisdom aspect of subsequent awareness is true wisdom. Therefore, it should be said that through the Dharma-knowledge forbearance and wisdom, the grasped is realized. Through the forbearance and wisdom of subsequent awareness, the grasper is realized. The six individuals who abide in the signless, as spoken by the Blessed One, should be understood as abiding in these forbearance and wisdom, because all signs are unobtainable. These sixteen moments of mind, gathered by forbearance and wisdom, are the path of seeing, because they can see the four aspects of each of the previously unseen noble truths. Here,

It is not to be understood as being aware in a moment of consciousness merely because something unarisen arises, but rather it is to be done when the arising of knowledge in relation to the knowable becomes complete. For example, "Suffering is to be fully known" refers to a single moment of consciousness. "The origin is to be abandoned," and so forth, is also the same. Whatever is elaborated extensively, starting from the path of seeing, should all be understood as merely conceptual designations, because the state beyond the world is to be known by each individual for themselves. All truths of the path are to be understood in four ways: conceptual designation, discrimination, experience, and completion. Among these, conceptual designation is how the hearers and so forth, having thoroughly comprehended what they have understood, then, in order to make it understandable to others, establish the truths of the path with collections of names, words, and letters, such as, "Patience and knowledge regarding the truths are like this." Discrimination is when worldly knowledge that has entered into realization discriminates and habituates itself just as it has been conceptually designated. Experience is when, in the course of such habituation, one first individually experiences the state beyond the world, free from elaboration, which is called the path of seeing. Completion is what is attained after that, when the transformation of the basis is completed, up to the point of attaining the ultimate attainment. Those who have attained the ultimate attainment then establish the truths of the path with the knowledge attained thereafter. Thus, these four aspects are the wheel of the path, and it should be understood that they enter again and again, relying on one another. What was said, "In the dharmas, there was born a Dharma eye, stainless and without defilement," was spoken in the context of the power of the path of seeing, because it is the nature of the eye of noble wisdom for the truths only at the beginning. Among these, the patiences regarding the dharmas are without dust, because they abandon the dust of afflictions. The knowledge of the dharmas is without stain, because they are born in a state that has abandoned the stain of its obscurations.
