The term "untouched by defilement" is synonymous with "abandoned." The term "in accordance with the Dharma" indicates that the objects to be given are suitable, because objects such as weapons, poison, and alcohol, which are not suitable, have been completely abandoned. The term "obtained by the Dharma" indicates that the objects to be given are obtained through the Dharma, because actions such as cheating with measuring tools and improper means of livelihood have been completely abandoned. Because one has properly taken the precepts and has not violated them, one possesses the precepts, and therefore is a possessor of precepts. The discipline that is maintained for the sake of liberation is the Pratimoksha vow, which leads to liberation from samsara. The perfection of rituals is because one's conduct and so forth are not criticized by the noble ones. The perfection of the sphere of activity is because one has abandoned the five improper spheres of activity. The five improper spheres of activity for a Bhikshu are: a slaughterhouse, a brothel, a tavern, a royal palace, and the house of an outcast. One also trains with strong intention in the transgressions that have been prescribed and in the natural transgressions, and even views minor transgressions as fearful. Because one takes and studies all the completely perfect trainings, it is called proper taking, that is, studying the grounds for training. From here onwards, starting with ethics, the meaning of what the Bhagavan has taught in other sutras regarding the restraint of body and speech will be explained. Among these, the restraint of body and speech is because it is completely grasped by mindfulness, because, as the Buddha has taught, in all actions such as walking and returning, one first thinks and then acts carefully. The perfection of body and speech is because one does not commit downfalls, that is, one does not destroy the precepts. All actions of body and speech are completely pure because one abides in Samadhi, and through the power of Samadhi, one can distance oneself from the defilements of ethics. All actions of body and speech are virtuous because they are not mixed with afflicted thoughts, they are purely virtuous.

The actions of body and speech are without fault because they are not entirely dedicated to existence and enjoyment, and therefore they are praised by the noble ones. The actions of body and speech are harmless because they do not involve praising oneself, belittling others, or causing discomfort and aversion. The actions of body and speech are consistent because they are consistent with attaining Nirvana, that is, they guide the noble path. The actions of body and speech are compliant because they proclaim one's own faults and virtues and are without arrogance. The actions of body and speech are endowed with skillful means because they are the precepts that gather together conduct equal to Brahma, that is, they are worthy of being approached. The actions of body and speech are appropriate because they break down pride towards the lamas and those similar to the lamas, that is, they serve and honor them as much as possible. The actions of body and speech are harmonious because they hold the instructions in harmony, that is, they do not hold their own views as supreme. The actions of body and speech are without suffering because they abandon harsh asceticism and fondness for evil deeds, that is, they do not cause suffering to oneself. The actions of body and speech are without regret because they are undertaken with the intention of abandoning those who indulge in pleasures and the limits of karma, and therefore there is no regret, that is, there is no regret later. The actions of body and speech are without weariness because they are undertaken in the direction of virtue, and one is not content with a small achievement, that is, there is no weariness until it can be accomplished. These are to be done as one's own work, so these are the works to be done as one's own. What are those works to be done as one's own like? It is because one experiences the ripening of one's own actions, and whatever is not shared with others is called one's own. These are the enjoyments of the share of karma, so these are the enjoyers of the share of karma. How is it that one enjoys the share of karma? It is the experience of the ripening of one's own actions, and the respective shares of good and bad.
