Because there is no joy, there is no mental happiness. In the realm of form, the joy and happiness of those meditators who have great doubt are produced following the increase of the power of samadhi. There, happiness and mental happiness are corresponding. Also, that which is not mixed with ignorance corresponds with happiness and mental happiness, and one should observe in this way based on that which is not corresponding. Why are all afflictions corresponding with equanimity? Because they disappear relying on the ordinary state. That is to say, the continuation of afflictions becomes smaller and smaller, and because of the power of the cessation of the continuation, it inevitably corresponds with equanimity through entering the ordinary state. In the realm of form, it corresponds with the four aggregates of consciousness, because there is no nose and tongue consciousness there. Pride and so on correspond with the aggregate of mind consciousness, because they arise through complete measurement. Pride is focused on one aspect, because it will be filled with any branch. In the desire realm, there are ten things to be abandoned by seeing suffering, that is to say, there, those who have inverted discriminations based on its cause and basis. Similarly, for arising and so on, one should also understand as inverted discriminations in their respective corresponding ways. Therefore, one should know that these are to be abandoned by seeing. Why should it be known that at any time, the object of reference is an inverted discrimination of it? Because the uncontaminated object of reference does not inevitably make the contaminated things subtle and increase. In the realm of form, because there is no anger, there are nine kinds of suffering and so on to be abandoned by seeing. It is the same in the formless realm. Co-emergent view of the aggregates is to be abandoned by cultivation, even though the path of seeing has been attained, there still arises pride in the noble hearers who think "I". As the venerable Brahman said, "I, the slave, do not see these five aggregates of grasping as me or mine, but

The pride of 'I' and the desire of 'mine', and the latent tendencies of 'mine' are not abandoned in these five aggregates. They are not fully understood, not blocked, not made limitless, as it is said. For example, if a mother's clothes become dirty, even if they are thoroughly washed with alkali and become free of dirt, there is still a tendency for dirt due to attachment to the clothes. Therefore, it needs to be removed by applying fragrant incense. Similarly, even for the noble Hearers who have abandoned the impurities of the view of the aggregates through the path of seeing, they still follow the view of self as something other than things, due to their previous attachment and habituation. This needs to be abandoned through the path of meditation. The innate view of permanence should be understood as included in the view of annihilation. Because it does not completely cut off 'what is my self', it causes the mind to turn away from Nirvana. Apart from being in accordance with the aspects of views, attachment and so on are what are to be abandoned through meditation. The so-called 'fully understanding its basic object' means not abandoning the latent tendencies of afflictions, as mentioned before. The so-called 'fully understanding the nature' refers to the afflictions of the nature that completely afflict the mind, which are called 'arising'. The so-called 'fully understanding the faults' refers to what is harmful to oneself, harmful to others, harmful to both, and generating blame in this life, generating blame in future lives, and experiencing mental pain and discomfort arising from them. Thus, having fully understood through these three aspects, one completely abandons in a way that does not allow afflictions to arise. In order not to generate what has not arisen, one meditates on the path. The so-called 'attending to the mind by focusing on mixture' means focusing on difference, which is a synonym for 'the aspect of the general characteristic of all phenomena'. If afflictions can be abandoned simply by understanding that all phenomena are selfless, then why are aspects such as impermanence taught? Because these are not for abandoning afflictions, but for
