Because earth and mental factors are both included within the cause of co-arising. Even so, it becomes a cause that is similar to other things, because any dharmas that arise together can be understood with the same aim, and it is not possible if any one is missing, such as mind and mental factors. The so-called previously cultivated virtuous, non-virtuous, and unspecified dharmas are those that have been previously habituated, which is a synonym for previously practiced. The so-called ultimate of the later, which becomes increasingly grand and excellent, refers to those seeds that have been fully nourished. Those that arise from those causes are expected to manifest special qualities in the future. Therefore, this cause of equal fruition is regarded as the cause that makes similar things grow. The pervasive cause not only makes similar things grow, but any afflictions such as attachment that have been habituated will cause the continuation of hatred and so on to increase. Therefore, because it binds tightly, it is regarded as an obstacle to attaining liberation. The ripening cause refers to what is included in a body that is completely different from the previous one, obscured, and not spoken of in the next life. Because it projects ripening, it is defined by the meaning of complete holding. Mentioning virtuous with outflows is because it is inconsistent with the arising of virtuous without outflows, and therefore it is not a cause of projection. The so-called uninterrupted continuity does not mean that there is no interruption for a moment, but that the interruption of another mind is also to be regarded as uninterrupted here. Otherwise, the mind of absorption would not become the immediate cause of the mind arising from the absorption of no-mind, because it would change in kind. Therefore, in the same continuum, the later mind and the earlier mind are not interrupted by another mind, and this is the immediate cause. As for the mind, it should be understood in this way, and the same is true for mental factors. From the similar and dissimilar, the immediate cause of the arising of mind and mental factors is also like that, that is, mind and
