The non-arising of aging and death, and that which, when ceased, aging and death cease, this shows what is unreasonable. What is the cause of the condition? The alaya-consciousness and the virtuous imprints, which refer to the contaminated and uncontaminated formations, respectively, in order. The alaya-consciousness is of two kinds: the ripening and the manifest formations. Among them, the ripening is the cause of the conditions of those obtained by birth. The manifest formations are those arising from application, and for the latter, the alaya-consciousness should be regarded as the cause of the conditions of other dharmas. The alaya-consciousness arising from manifest formations should be understood as the habituation that arises simultaneously with the final consciousness of that life. Virtuous imprints should be regarded as the imprints that are in accordance with the part of liberation, because they arise from the cause of the corresponding dharma that obtains transcendence over the world, therefore its imprint should be understood as the cause of the dharma that transcends the world. Furthermore, the six causes are shown as the cause of the conditions by words such as "essence". Among them, essence and distinction are established as the acting cause. The remaining words should be understood as the co-emergent cause, the corresponding cause, the similar cause, the pervasive cause, and the ripening cause, respectively. Because the acting cause is established based on the nature of the cause, it should be understood that all causes are included within the acting cause. Friends, etc., are separately established in order to show the distinctions. Among the distinctions of the acting cause, what is shown, such as the aggregates of consciousness, should be regarded as merely examples. In this way, other things with similar nature should also be clearly examined. Among them, the arising acting cause is because the fruit that has not yet arisen arises from it. The abiding acting cause is because it makes the continuum of what has arisen uninterrupted. The dependent acting cause is because it prevents the obstacles of falling. The clarifying acting cause is because it eliminates the obscurations.

The operative cause of transformation is because it causes the continuum to transform into something else. The operative cause of separation is because it severs two connections. The operative cause of alteration is because it causes its parts to move to another place. The operative cause of belief is because it infers what is hidden. The operative cause of causing belief is because it correctly determines it. The operative cause of attainment is because it is the cause of attaining it. The operative cause of name is because it holds the name as a sign as it is, thereby manifestly clinging and subsequently applying the name. The operative cause of dependence is because it is the cause of the arising of other desires. The operative cause of projection is because what arises from its cause arises by passing from one state to another, one after another, thereby projecting. The operative cause of manifest accomplishment is because it is the cause of generating what arises immediately. The operative cause of complete holding is because it increases strength from its own seed. The operative cause of exhaustion is because it is accomplished by conforming to it. The operative cause of separate determination is because the fruits arise differently due to different natures. The operative cause of acting together is because it relies on other causes in order to accomplish its own fruit. The operative cause of disagreement is because it obstructs. The operative cause of not disagreeing should be understood as the opposite of that. For example, saying "the elements and what is transformed from the elements" refers to all the collections that appear similar, and the four great elements inevitably arise in what is transformed from the elements, such as form, and this is not without. Therefore, wherever something is, it arises together with it, and it is not so if there is nothing. Thus, because it is determined as a friend, it is established as a cause of arising together. It should be understood that "the elements and what is transformed from the elements" is only an example. Mind and mental factors are certain not to arise if there is nothing. If that is the case, then the corresponding cause cannot be established separately, because mind
