Then how should it be categorized? For example, saying "non-individual examination" means distinguishing from virtue. Saying "non-afflictive mind" means distinguishing from non-virtue. Saying "completely holding without explanation" is because of the habit of being accustomed to craftsmanship, and completely holding such a body. Saying "taking medicine without individual examination" is because using the antidote to disease eliminates the disease. What is unexplained by the co-emergent cause? Saying "arising together with the emanation mind" means that the emanation manifests because of playing with mind and mental factors, and it should be known as virtuous for the benefit of sentient beings. Saying "teaching is also virtuous" and so on, means that Buddhas and others universally show it for the sake of the meaning of taming. How does one universally show it in a non-virtuous way? Transforming into thieves and so on, in order to frighten other sentient beings, universally showing cutting off hands, feet, heads, and so on. Saying "unrelated to desire" means not even possessing a slight aspect related to being free from desire itself, which is a synonym for not having attained samadhi. Otherwise, even the incapable would become completely associated with desire. Immediately after attaining samadhi, one is happy to abandon it, because one has abandoned the evil realms that have become the opposite of the uncommon qualities, and one should know that there is an aspect related to being free from desire itself. External forms and so on, here, are completely associated with desire because they are accomplished by the power of karma that is not separated from desire. Saying "arising from the common karma of all sentient beings" means that those who practice in the form realm and the formless realm also have the seeds of karma that are not separated from desire. Saying "four elements" refers to the realms of consciousness of smell, taste, and nose and tongue. Saying "two sources" refers to the sources of smell and taste. Saying "a part of the aggregates, realms, and sources other than that" refers to those who practice in the form realm and the formless realm, and those other than the uncontaminated. Saying "except for the four elements and the two sources" and so on.

That is what was just said. Other than that, a portion of the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas refers to what is practiced in the desire realm and the formless realm, excluding the uncontaminated. The four skandhas refer to feeling, etc. The three dhatus refer to the mind-dhatu, the dharma-dhatu, and the consciousness-dhatu. The two ayatanas refer to the mind-ayatana and the dharma-ayatana. A portion of these refers to what is practiced in the desire realm and the form realm, excluding the uncontaminated. "Being free from desire from a portion" refers to taking the ground as the basis, because the aspects of affliction are abandoned up to the eighth ground. "Being free from desire from all" refers to abandoning the ninth. Again, taking the view of the perishable aggregate as the basis, a trainee is "being free from desire from a portion." A non-trainee should be understood as "being free from desire from all." "Being free from desire through discrimination" refers to the path of seeing. "Being free from desire through harming" refers to the worldly path. "Being free from desire through excellent suppression" refers to being beyond the world, therefore it should be understood as being free from desire by its very nature. The meaning of clinging inappropriately to the so-called ten freedoms from desire should be understood as the meaning of freedom from desire. It is not for the sake of abandoning the meaning of not being eaten by spirits. Obtaining an extremely great method is superior to a lower method, it should be understood as being like the chief of a city, etc., and the village head, etc. Children, with regard to nirvana, do not understand its peacefulness, and because they are manifestly attached to the view of the perishable aggregate. Obtaining the path of seeing for those in the three realms is because they possess complete knowledge of the suffering of conditioning, and because they arise with aversion to all contaminated things. The virtue of striving for liberation is to be regarded as something to be learned, which means striving for liberation from the stage of accumulating merit. The stage of accumulating merit should be understood as manifestly entering into accordance with the factors of liberation. The ten dhatus refer to the consciousness-
