Universally arising occurs at the time of going. Arising with seeds excludes the final aggregates of an Arhat. Arising without seeds refers to those final aggregates. Arising for the sake of images, power, and definite instruction is in accordance with knowable objects, transformed from liberation, and the form of the Thus-Gone One, in that order. Arising from one to another is the continuum of lifetimes. Arising from one instant is the characteristic of conditioned phenomena, each individual instant. Arising from encounter and separation is at the time of encountering and separating from suffering and non-suffering, and at the time when the mind has desire and is without desire. Arising in other states is in states such as flickering, and in states such as illness. Arising in dying and being born is the sentient world. Arising in destruction and formation is the vessel world. Arising in the past is the existence of the past. Arising at the time of death is the existence of death. Arising in between is the existence of the intermediate state. Arising at the time of connection is the existence of birth. That which is called one aspect of the form and formation aggregates is the characteristic of possessing the same nature as the faculties, in that order. That which is called one aspect of the dharma realm and sense bases is the nature of possessing the same essence. The eater is the self, which should be recognized as aiming at desirable and undesirable objects. Grasping without contact is the eye, ear, and mind. Grasping after contact is the other faculties besides those. Grasping the distinct individual characteristics of the present, definite in their respective objects, arises from the five faculties. Grasping all objects at all times, the characteristics of self and generality, arises from the six faculties. Taking the aggregation of causes and conditions as the basis for arising from consciousness, the approximation of grasping by imputation should be understood as the true meaning, because phenomena have no maker. That which is the grasper is also that which is grasped, because the eye and so forth are also grasped by the consciousness of mind. The phrase "the very field of activity of grasping" is added.

This is to eliminate the arising of mind and mental factors. What arises from hearing, what arises from thinking, and the Dharma that accords with them, are completely encompassed by cultivation. This is not looking outward, because it arises from the cause of similar Dharma. By the power of this, one should view Nirvana and so on as objects of focus. The Dharma that arises from a similar cause should be known as the stable Dharma that arises from the cause realized by the Buddhas and so on. The four realms are the realm of nose consciousness, the realm of tongue consciousness, the realm of smell, and the realm of taste. The two sources are the source of smell and the source of taste. The other parts besides these are included in any desired realm. The so-called ten realms refer to the seven consciousness realms, as well as the realms of form, sound, and Dharma. The four sources refer to the source of form, the source of sound, the source of mind, and the source of Dharma. The so-called "cause and effect already used" refers to what has already arisen and what has already ceased, in that order. The so-called "completely defiled and purifying, truly surpassing," refers to things like desire and so on that arise in the present, as well as faith and so on, because the mind has no power to completely defile and purify. The so-called "having grasped the cause, it is destroyed" means that it is destroyed from other habitual tendencies. The so-called "fruit and own nature existing and not existing" means that at such a time, the habitual tendencies produced by it exist, and there is no substance to establish it. The so-called characteristics of pervasive discrimination of memory and so on, one should know that characteristics only exist in the object. The so-called "one aspect of all" refers to the future, the present, and what is unconditioned. The so-called "having a cause but not arisen" is to distinguish it from the unconditioned, because it has not arisen and does not possess a cause. The so-called "not having obtained its own nature" is because its own nature is not established. The so-called "cause and effect not used" means that the function of its seed has not been done, and it has not arisen. The so-called "cause and effect already used and not used" refers to what is not established and what exists.
