The reason for saying this is to show approximately that whatever belongs to the place of birth, then the afflictions that manifest it must also belong to that place alone. The afflictions that manifest it are also of two kinds: the existence of the previous life, and the last mind between the nature of taking and the existence of the form realm birth. The afflictions that project are uncertain; sometimes they are of the same place, that is, when the ignorance that operates in the desire realm drives the actions that operate only in the desire realm. Sometimes the place is not the same, that is, when the karma corresponding to the proximity of the first mundane dhyana and the uninterrupted path drives, the delusion to be abandoned by the view is the desire realm. Because those who have not separated from desire will not universally use the afflictions belonging to the higher place, and even in the state of being separated from desire, the uninterrupted path will not appear, and only through the uninterrupted path can one be born to a higher place. If the connection of rebirth is only done by afflictions of the same place, then when dying from the form realm and being reborn into the formless realm, what is the afflicted mind that manifests the existence of birth operating in the formless realm? Regarding this, the view of the Sutra School is that for those who are separated from the desire for form and die in the form realm, what enables them to connect rebirth to the existence operating in the formless realm? That is, the last mind of death that arises belongs to the afflictions of the form realm. Similarly, it should also be said that those of higher places who die in the sphere of infinite space are also like this. In the Mahayana, it is said that all minds of death are unconditioned and unindicated. If this is the case, then what should be done? There, for those who die separated from desire, as long as the last mind of death arises, even if it is interrupted by the last mind of death, it can manifest the existence of being born in the formless realm through transmission, so they are very happy with the body of the higher place.

A defiled mind, equally endowed with desire and the like, will arise. If someone says that for a non-returner, this mind does not exist at that time, it is because he has severed desire from a certain realm and no longer seeks the benefit of that realm, so it is said. In this way, it can be said that the rebirth in the formless realm is due to a cause with intervals, and it is a defiled place. Then, when dying and transmigrating from the peak of existence, from the sphere of infinite consciousness to the sphere of nothingness, etc., when rebirth occurs in these three places, by the power of what kind of defiled mind at the time of death will rebirth occur downwards? And it will also be said that it is because it is a defiled place. Then, will the defilements of the peak of existence, etc., cause rebirth downwards? It is not that the cause of the upper realm will make the defilements of the lower realm manifest. It is not so, because even there, at the time of death, it is also due to the seed of defilement that rebirth will occur downwards, and it will also be said that it is because it is a defiled place, so the defilements of the lower realm will increase. In this way, the rebirth in the formless realm should not be specially considered separately in order to understand the meaning. Those who have completed rebirth, etc., refer to the rebirth in the desire realm as a premise, and separately show the three kinds of defiled states that are born only in the desire realm, and incidentally mention the sentient beings of the three realms. After that, the rebirth in the form realm is shown. Now, in order to show the place of defilement at the time of birth, which is not common to the desire realm and the form realm, it is said again, "Also born in the formless realm," etc. This shows that for those who practice in the formless realm, the sudden arising of desire and the like, as well as faith and the like, are all because the seeds of the defiled mind of the form realm have been accumulated from beginningless samsara.
