DTG134 0005.A Concise Explanation Differentiating the Secret Meaning..g2.0f

English

Furthermore, the third is the proximate cause, thus, all those who, as individuals, enter and abide in causes and effects, it is by relying on that that the ten bhumis are well distinguished. The stages of practice are indicated by the three trainings, and these stages of practice well distinguish these three states of the individual. Among them, although in the state of the Tathagata, the entry into the knowable is non-inverted, here it refers to the initial entry. Where is that non-inverted entry perfected? Thus, in the intermediate forbearance stage, one truly realizes the aspect of grasping of the solely imputed side. In the great and supreme dharma stages, it is the grasping. Immediately following that, in the first moment of the path of seeing, it is suchness. After that, in the Joyful Ground, which is different from it, the entry is perfected. Combining the words "cause and effect of entry," the ground of adhimukti-carya (application through conviction) is the cause, and the state of the Joyful Ground, etc., is the effect. The meaning of "its cause and effect, practice well distinguish" is: because it is the main thing, only the good distinction of the fruit is made. Incidentally, in order to show the various differences of countless eons, the various differences of the cause will be made. Superior discipline, etc., because it is the main thing, the three trainings are mentioned. Incidentally, the other perfections are also mentioned, and this is indicated by the difference in the words such as generosity and discipline. When the discipline, etc., that is practiced for the benefit of sentient beings is mentioned, then it is only the reality. Superior mind, etc.: the first three bhumis, etc., are the samadhi that manifests the Great Vehicle. The fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh bhumis, etc., are the samadhi that gathers all merits. The ninth and eighth are the Samadhiraja Sadhumati. The tenth is the Heroic Progress and the Akashagarbha, etc. Superior wisdom, etc.: because it is the main thing, the main practice is mentioned, and the practitioner and the follower are shown later. The difference of abandonment

Nirvana with respect to things like earth is of four types: Nirvana with remainder, Nirvana without remainder, Nirvana by nature, and likewise, non-abiding Nirvana. Among these, the first three are common with Shravakas and others, so they are not taken. Only non-abiding Nirvana, which is Suchness free from the two obscurations, is uncommon, so it is taken. The "distinction of wisdom" and so on, where "dharma" refers to the ten powers and so on. Their "body," that is, the basis, is the Dharmakaya. This is completely pure Suchness, because all the Buddhas' dharmas depend on it and arise from it. The word "all" is also said to be a basis, like the faculties of the body. Although it is an accumulation, it is the basis for the eyes and so on. In one way, the body is only its own characteristic, and because it is its own characteristic, it is dharma. This is both body and dharma, so it is Dharmakaya, which is completely pure Suchness. The word "body" is also said to be its own characteristic, like the body of consciousness aggregates, because there is no accumulation for those who are non-form. This Dharmakaya is the cause of wisdom, so it is the distinction of wisdom, and it is the Svabhavikakaya. All the Tathagata's wisdom is considered to be for the purpose of fully enjoying oneself, so it is the Sambhogakaya. The nature of the ten powers and so on, and whatever has become excellent signs and marks, those are also the nature of the Tathagata's wisdom, so they are the distinction of wisdom. Due to its power, whatever appears to Bodhisattvas as distinct signs and marks, and whatever pervades the mind and mental factors, that is also for the purpose of others fully enjoying, so it is the Sambhogakaya. Merely due to the power of the Tathagata's wisdom, the bodies that appear to Bodhisattvas who practice faith, and in the streams of Shravakas and others as distinct signs and marks, because they are short-lived, they are Nirmanakaya, and because they are the fruit of wisdom, they are the

It is a distinction. Wishing to explain the name "Buddha, the Blessed One, etc.," it is said, "The Great Vehicle is the word of the Buddha," and so on. How is it? If some understand the Hearer's Vehicle itself to be the Great Vehicle, then they also say that the Buddha's word is the Great Vehicle. Therefore, the Hearer's Vehicle is not truly the Great Vehicle of the Buddha's word, because it lacks the display of ten aspects, like the treatises of the Samkhyas and others. What is called "distinguished from the Hearer's Vehicle" means that it shows the distinguished speech as superior with ten aspects. Because in the Hearer's Vehicle, the objects of knowledge and so on are not fully shown, but in this (Great Vehicle), all objects of knowledge and so on are shown, therefore, with ten aspects distinguishing it from the Hearer's Vehicle, the Tathagata's speech is distinguished. Because it is supreme, it is also superior. How is it supreme? Because it is shown as supreme. How is it shown as supreme? Because the Blessed One started teaching from the Bodhisattvas. This is a synonym for being supreme because the ones to be tamed are supreme. Thus, depending on the ones to be tamed, the teachings are inferior or supreme. For example, because they are ordinary beings, inferior teachings are taught for the sake of merchants Gagon and the beautiful ones; because it is the occasion of the noble ones, intermediate teachings are taught for the sake of the five aggregates; because of the Bodhisattvas, eight kinds of Prajnaparamita are taught, which are supreme by way of refuting analysis. The eight kinds are the "Perfection of Wisdom in Three Hundred Verses," the "Perfection of Wisdom in Five Hundred Verses," the "Perfection of Wisdom in Seven Hundred Verses," the "Perfection of Wisdom in Two Thousand Five Hundred Verses," the "Perfection of Wisdom in Eight Thousand Verses," the "Perfection of Wisdom in Eighteen Thousand Verses," the "Perfection of Wisdom in Twenty-five Thousand Verses," and the "Perfection of Wisdom in One Hundred Thousand Verses." Teaching the "White Lotus Sutra of the Good Dharma" and so on is the most excellent, because from it, teaching the One Vehicle, even those of uncertain lineage are led from it. Teaching the "Great Nirvana Sutra" and so on is the ultimate of excellence.
