Then those are the nature of mind and mental events that arise. In that case, even on one basis, there would be the fault of many sentient being continuums arising. If, like many minds and mental events arise in one instant, but it is not like multiple continuums, is it not? For this, there is no fault, because mental events arise depending on the mind. Then, if seven consciousnesses of entering arise in one instant, but it is not like multiple continuums, is it not? For this, there is no fault, because those arise depending on one alaya consciousness. If the seeds are the same nature of mind and mental events, because they exist independently from the alaya consciousness, there is the fault of becoming multiple continuums. If the seeds are not different from the alaya consciousness, because it is obscured and unindicated. The seeds are also obscured and unindicated, therefore only obscured and unindicated dharmas will arise, but it is not reasonable for obscured and unindicated to give rise to virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas. Thus, in both aspects, two faults appear, therefore it is said that those abiding in it and the otherness as substance are also not, etc., meaning that for the alaya consciousness, those are not to be said as that and other. Like that, are there other famous sayings that can be cited? It is said that there are, for example, for the Vaibhashikas, the characteristic of the present substance holding the fruit, that is also not different from the substance, because the substance is empty of action, therefore it would become the fault of not being present. It is also not non-different, because there is no difference from the self-characteristic of the substance, so there is action even in the past time, therefore it would become the fault of being present. Also, for example, for the Sautrantikas, when a noble being manifests an uncontaminated mind in the formless realm, it cannot be said that the seeds of pervasive afflictions arising from that mind are that, because it would become the fault of being uncontaminated like it. It also cannot be said to be other.

Just like before, it would become the fault of having multiple continuums. Similarly, it should also be applied to the views of other schools of thought. With words such as "However," it summarizes the meaning and shows the nature and essence of the seed. "Possessing the distinction of the power of arising." This phrase means that because it is a distinction of power, it is also not the nature of the Alaya-vijnana. Similarly, with the word "arising," it is also not different from the Alaya-vijnana, meaning that it is not solely based on the Alaya-vijnana as the cause. With the word "all seeds," it shows the seed of all such seeds. Because it is the section on mutual causes, it mentions "Alaya-vijnana" and so on. Here, similarly, the "afflictions of conceptualization" that are mentioned should be explained as before. The Sautrantikas also similarly refute and contemplate this, and according to their view, they establish the cause as different moments. If they argue that only those of different times are cause and effect, or even if they refute those of the same time, in either case, because uncertainty has been well shown, the flame, ashes, and quiver should be discussed. Among them, it is impossible for ashes to be earlier and flame to be later, because what is called ashes is the change of wood caused by fire. Therefore, without flame, there would be no ashes. Therefore, it is also impossible for the flame to be later. Similarly, it is also impossible for the flame to be earlier and the ashes to be later, because just like burning, the wood would turn to ashes without changing. How could unburned wood become the basis for flame? Therefore, ashes and flame are simultaneous. The Alaya-vijnana is said to be the collection of seeds, and the collection of Vipaka, and two forms. Seeds are also divided into mind, arising, and two forms according to the third distinction. Among them, from which moment the consciousness that enters from the seed-mind arises, in that very moment, new seeds are produced in the Alaya-vijnana.
