DTG134 0005.A Concise Explanation Differentiating the Secret Meaning..g2.0f

because it does not exist and has not existed. Similarly, in explaining the aggregates, it is said that the sound called "consciousness" arises. The aggregates and so on are the cause of imputation of the person, and as the cause of imputation, the present consciousness is also possible. But this is also unreasonable, because of the difference of the past and so on, the aggregate of consciousness will arise. In order to make some of the tamed ones trust through some terms, and in order to generate correct views respectively, if it is only admitted that the sound of the name is different, then the reason for these different terms is not explained, so this is also unreasonable. Therefore, the views of the Mahayana practitioners are good, that is, when the collection of the eight consciousnesses functions, the Alaya consciousness and so on are the mind. The afflicted mind is the mind because it thinks of the meaning. The collection of the six consciousnesses is the mind because it is directed towards various objects. The collection of the eight consciousnesses is also the mind through the door of imputation related to the immediately following meaning or the meaning of realization. The collection of the eight consciousnesses is also the consciousness through the meaning of distinguishing in each object. When it mainly functions, because it is various and thinks of the meaning, only the Alaya consciousness is the mind, and the others are not, because it is impossible to have three reasons. Because it always clings to the appearance of manifestation, only the afflicted mind is the mind, but because of the manifestation, the Alaya consciousness is not, and because of the interruption of the continuity, the other consciousnesses are not. Because it is the appearance of various manifestations, only the entering consciousness is the consciousness, but because it does not manifest, the Alaya consciousness is not, and because it is not various, the afflicted mind is not. Therefore, it is said in the sutra that mainly relying on the mind, it is also called the mind. In particular, it is also said in the sutra, such as what the Blessed One said about mind, intellect, and consciousness. Among them, the main thing is the mind, indicating that only the Alaya consciousness is the mind.

Become that. In order to specifically show the mind, it is said that "there are two types of mind." Because it becomes the immediate cause, saying "because it becomes the place" is incidentally showing the general conventional mind. Here, it is also only taking the one that has just passed among the six, not between each other, because they also arise together. In order to truly show, the second "defiled mind" is mentioned. "Four defilements" are because of holding the alaya consciousness as self, so it is satkayadristi (འཇིག་ཚོགས་ལ་ལྟ་བ,梵文:satkāyadṛṣṭi,梵文罗马拟音:satkāya-dṛṣṭi,literal meaning: view of the perishable collection). Because that which is held as self will be filled, so it is the pride of "I am" (ང་རྒྱལ,梵文:māna,梵文罗马拟音:māna,literal meaning: pride). Because of manifest attachment to that which is filled, so it is attachment to self. All of those are produced from ignorance, so it is ignorance. That is the place where consciousness is completely defiled, which is a synonym for saying that all six consciousnesses are also places with leaks. Because the word "completely defiled" is a different name for having leaks, just like the complete defilement of birth. If it were not so, then how would the birth that is neither obscured nor declared become completely defiled? If relative to the consciousness of the mind, then there is also the cause of producing the birth that will be spoken of, because it is the same, immediate, and uncommon, so the place of complete defilement is shown first. Furthermore, how is the defiled mind the cause of having leaks? To this, temporarily when the collection of six consciousnesses is defiled, because it only arises together with the leaks that correspond to itself, so those are established as having leaks. When it is not defiled, then how is it? It cannot be said that it arises from a place related to the seeds of leaks, because that would also become a fault of the true path. If the defiled mind is acknowledged, then because it only arises together with the leaks that correspond to it, it is having leaks. If that is the case, then during cessation and entering into samadhi on the path beyond the world

At this time, the ālaya-vijñāna does not become tainted, if it is said that because at that time it does not operate together with the afflictions. Answer: No. Because it is the cause of taint, it is itself tainted. Then, because it is associated with the four afflictions and the five pervasive [mental factors] previously shown, are there only nine mental events here? Among the individually determined [mental factors], aspiration does not arise for a while. It is of three kinds, namely the aspiration to seek a purpose and the aspiration to meet. For a while, there is no aspiration to seek a purpose, because the object of the mind is near. The aspiration to meet is also not, because it appears as inseparable, and the aspiration to meet is an object of distant things. The aspiration not to separate is also not, because it is distinguished by the fear of separation, and the afflicted mind does not have this distinction. Adhimoksha also does not arise, because adhimoksha as the nature of certainty is preceded by the cutting off of doubt and is an object of experience, and because the mind operates with the same nature, doubt is also impossible, and it is also an object of the present. Memory is also not, because it is an object of experience, because the afflicted mind focuses on previously non-existent objects in each moment. Samādhi is also not. Why? Because it is said that the mind is focused on the object to be examined. If it is said that there is also an object to be examined here, and there is also focus itself, because it focuses on the ālaya-vijñāna. Answer: No, if the mind places the mind evenly in the presence of distraction, then there is samādhi. The afflicted mind does not place it evenly in that way, because it operates with the same nature as long as samsara exists. Or, if the previously experienced moment of the object repeatedly occurs, then it is associated with samādhi, but the afflicted mind is not like that, because it focuses on previously non-existent objects in each moment.
