That which has not become a knower is not incapable of becoming the support of pure Dharma. Whatever is the lineage that abides by its own nature in the state of all afflictions, and that which has been truly cultivated, that is also the cause of pure Dharma, but it is not accepted as the Alaya-consciousness itself. Because in that state, it is not the main thing, and because it has no substance. Because when the term Alaya-consciousness is applied to the mere object of the undifferentiated cause, then the complete transformation is also the act. As it is said in the Great Nirvana Sutra: "The Alaya-consciousness and the evolving consciousness gather the complete enjoyment body." Here, if others are placed there, or if it is placed elsewhere, it is also possible. In any case, the Alaya-consciousness is only the nature of the cause, and it is only a term established by the reason for the definition of the word. The evolving consciousness and the nature of cause and effect together will become the analysis of conditions. To apply it to sentient beings as their own nature is to abide, and the reason for the application of words abides in the nature of consciousness. How does it abide? It is said "in its own nature", because it is its own nature. That is the nature of sentient beings, because "the nature is extremely gentle". Other evolving consciousnesses are not called self, because they are interrupted from time to time, and do not agree with self and Dharma. In general, to apply it to sentient beings as their own nature refers to the object of the view of the collection of afflicted minds and co-existing self. In what aspect? In its own nature, it is the word called "the aspect of self." Other evolving consciousnesses are not excluded from the category of the five aggregates of grasping, so does the view of the collection of co-existing selves with the consciousness of the mind grasp as self in twenty aspects? If those also become Alaya-consciousness, then if most objects are considered to be Alaya-consciousness, then co-existing with the consciousness of the mind

The view of the aggregates with attachment is mostly not an object, because it arises universally in an estimable time. Furthermore, how does the afflicted mind apprehend the ālaya-vijñāna? It is through the manner of arising in the aspect of self by its power, but not through the manner of establishing its own nature. Furthermore, here, some say that the eye and so forth are not the nature of the ālaya, because they are faculties, like the mind faculty. This is not established, for if it is not the nature of the ālaya, the mind faculty and its nature, then it is not certain with the life faculty. The eye and so forth are not the nature of consciousness, because consciousness is the basis of fame, like the mind faculty, so it cannot be said. In the sūtra "Explicating the Thought," "thought" refers to the indirect thought. Among them, the teachings given for the sake of the śrāvakas did not reveal the indirect thought, because they analyzed form and so forth. Furthermore, the eight perfections of wisdom that were taught also did not reveal the indirect thought, because they were dedicated to refuting the completely imputed. From this, the indirect thought is revealed, so it is called "Explicating the Thought." Among them, the contaminated refers to the ripening, because worldly scholars cannot fathom its depth. Subtle refers to the state of the seed, because it is without substance, so it is difficult to analyze because it cannot be said to be the same or different. In one way, it is profound because it is not directly perceived by the wisdom arising from hearing, thinking, and innate knowledge. It is subtle because it is not the direct perception arising from worldly meditation. In one way, it is profound because it is not fully known by the knowledge of all śrāvakas, pratyekabuddhas, and ordinary beings. It is subtle because it is difficult to know by the knowledge of bodhisattvas who practice with faith. The phrase "all seeds" refutes the assertions of the Sāṃkhyas, because the manner of seeds arising and ceasing together is the manner of holding the seeds.
