If it is one case, then in either case, the fame of wisdom and awareness is not true. Therefore, mindfulness is the mind's manifestation that follows a familiar object, and since it does not exist in an unfamiliar object, it is not universally present. Even so, mindfulness does not become a limb of perfect enlightenment, because on the path of seeing, suchness has not been previously experienced. This is not a fault, because in the first moment, there is no mindfulness as a limb of perfect enlightenment. In the second and subsequent moments, it exists. At that time, suchness is indeed previously experienced. The statement that there are seven limbs of enlightenment on the path of seeing is meant from the perspective of continuity, not from the perspective of a moment, so there is no contradiction. Alternatively, during the time of application, since the general aspect of suchness has been experienced, there is no contradiction to mindfulness as a limb of perfect enlightenment even in the first moment. According to the Vaibhashikas, wisdom is the complete discrimination of dharmas. If discrimination is merely the complete cutting off of an object, then this is the same for all minds and mental factors. Therefore, wisdom is the complete discrimination of the characteristics of what needs to be closely examined, with reason and unreason, and what is contrary to both. Therefore, wisdom is not universally present. For that very reason, wisdom is impossible in the aggregates of consciousness such as eye-consciousness that arise from proximity, because they cannot fully comprehend. The same is true for those projected by the immediately preceding mental consciousness. Those that are not universally present, because they possess the same clarity as consciousness, do not simultaneously possess the same obscurity as the alaya-consciousness. Because the alaya-consciousness, which is the maturation of the karma that projects, is unobscured and unspecified, afflictions such as desire and virtues such as faith are also impossible. The other four uncertain dharmas, such as sleep, are also not corresponding, because when one is asleep, whatever is the nature of the near affliction is only a certain distinction of ignorance.

Therefore, due to its unclear nature, it causes the mind to manifestly gather. Whatever is in the state of virtue and non-indication is also established as arising in the state of both the non-deterministic nature of wisdom, because of its non-deterministic nature and because it arises in a clear manner. Regret is also established only in wisdom because it leads to recollection in the form of discrimination. Discrimination and analysis, etc., are also established only in wisdom because they enter into the form of discrimination. Wisdom and ignorance, etc., are not in accordance with the Alaya consciousness, because they are not afflictive and not pervasive. Discrimination and analysis, etc., are established in attention; all of these are the path. If it is in the form of seeking and individually understanding, then such attention is not in accordance with the Alaya consciousness, because it is unclear. Abandoning the elaborate, only the main points should be stated, or, in the phrase "the Alaya of all dharmas," there are two types of Alaya consciousness: the fruition of the result state and the fruition of the cause state. Relying on the freedom of fruition, it is said, "The Alaya of all dharmas." Relying on the freedom of non-fruition, it is said, "Only the ground is everything." Relying on the freedom of both, it is said, "Therefore, Alaya consciousness." Among them, whatever is the object of that, such as the eye and form, etc., with their own nature of individual manifestation, the Alaya consciousness is the Alaya because it is the basis of that. Feelings, etc., that are in accordance with oneself, and the collection of the seven consciousnesses, depend on that; it is the Alaya because of its nature of arising. Sentient beings who have birth, all afflicted dharmas, are combined with it in the object of the result, or, it is said so mostly because the realm of sentient beings mostly becomes afflicted. Some who do not become afflicted are like the non-learners and those who abide in the eighth Bhumi Bodhisattva, etc., their Alaya.
