Therefore, here too, by analyzing the nature of the place of knowledge, the meaning of the term Ālayavijñāna is analyzed. In the context of terms, it cannot be said what will happen in the context of meaning, because it is not like this to show one's own nature, which will be explained below. The so-called "beginningless time" means that it is not something that arises suddenly. The so-called "element" is a synonym for "cause." The meaning of "the place of inquiry for all dharmas" is: for the time being, good and non-good are not places. If they are places, then they will become the place of the ripening fruit, and if the ripening fruit is simultaneous or immediately following, then when the fruit arises, the karma has already disappeared. The past is also not a place, because the action has disappeared, like a flower in the sky. Co-nascent karma and the life force are also not places, because they have no substance. Even if they were all something, they would still be the place of something limited. It is also not possible to infer that it is the place of all merely by the nature of not obstructing, because in this way, the non-place would also become a place. Similarly, other inferences made by one's own school are also denials of the place, and it implies that the place of all dharmas is the Ālayavijñāna. In order to examine what the Ālayavijñāna is the place of, it is said, "Because it exists, saṃsāra and nirvāṇa can also be attained." The so-called "saṃsāra" is because it is the place of all afflictions. The so-called "nirvāṇa can also be attained" refers to the place of gradual purification through hearing and thinking, etc. In order to refute the nihilists, it is said, "beginningless time." In order to completely abandon those who think of the beginningless time as permanent with inconsistent causes, such as Īśvara, etc., it is said, "similar place." It means that if it is similar to the fruit, then it is the place. Just as the arising of the fruit is related to the cause, any cause that is related to arising and ceasing is similar to the fruit.

That is the understanding. Similarly, some proponents argue that effects can arise even from a permanent cause, and they understand the cause to be endowed with action, such as the Vaisheshikas. To refute this, it is stated, "Because it exists," which is the definition of saying that merely existing without action is a cause. Here, too, one should understand both "merely because it exists" and "known only by its existence." These two statements must be grasped with wisdom. Those who consider the cause to be permanent and believe that effects arise from substances such as the self and the lord, as well as from other primordial matter, are certainly excluded by these two statements. Those who consider something to be the nature of a cause merely by existing and being endowed with action are excluded by the second statement.\ Furthermore, it should be examined that here, when the Alaya-vijnana is designated as the abode of all afflictions, such as when it is explained as "connecting all afflicted dharmas," then for that side, the so-called "beginningless realm of time" is understood to be the realm itself as the abode of all afflictions. At that time, because it is the cause, it is said, "Because it exists, all beings." If viewed from the perspective of purification, then it is the seed of affliction, the dominant condition, because there is no contradictory aspect, and therefore no antidote. Therefore, because it is the dominant condition, it is said that Nirvana can also be attained. When the Alaya-vijnana is designated by considering both the seed of affliction and the realm of pure nature, as it is said in the *Garland of Jewels Lion's Roar Sutra*: "From the perspective of the pure seed, all sentient beings possess the Tathagatagarbha." And in the *Great Nirvana Sutra*: "The Alaya-vijnana and the entering consciousness gather the Sambhogakaya." When it is said like this, it is because of this that it is said: "Beginningless realm of time." This is named by considering the two seeds. At that time, also because the seed of affliction that can transform into a good rebirth is the cause, and because of liberation,
