It is taught. Those that are not taught, and those called "also" and so on, are because for the hearers, even if the alaya-consciousness is not taught, they can, through the knowable, such as coarse things like form, and the nature of suffering and origin, such as the separate discriminations of impermanence and so on, abandon the afflictions. For that purpose, they abide in pure conduct in the presence of the Blessed One. Coarse is because form is embodied. Feelings and so on are because the object and aspect are completely cut off, and because the cause is coarse. The opposite of that is that the alaya-consciousness is subtle. Even if one does not manifestly know and completely know one dharma, I have not said that one can end suffering, those that are said are in terms of afflictions. Because it is synonymous with the sound of difference of "not abandoning", there is nothing else to be abandoned other than afflictions. Or, tending towards the general characteristics of impermanence and so on, but not grasping the alaya-consciousness itself, so there is no fault. Bodhisattvas are said to know all knowable things belong to knowing all, this is because by the power of lineage they have the ability, and pursue meaning, and have the characteristic of belonging. It belongs to what should be known by all. Otherwise, one cannot accomplish other things. Because one does not understand the thoughts, habits, realms, superior faculties, non-superior faculties, those with fortune and those without fortune, times and non-times of others, one is not omniscient, so one cannot accomplish all the benefits of others, therefore the alaya-consciousness is taught to bodhisattvas who pursue those meanings. Without knowing it, it is not easy to obtain omniscient wisdom, this is because without completely knowing the alaya-consciousness, one will not abandon the complete realization of meaning, and if one does not abandon it, there will be meaning that should be completely examined, therefore there is no non-conceptual wisdom. Therefore, without manifestly showing the general characteristics of all knowable things, it is not easy to obtain omniscient wisdom. By means of wisdom corresponding to discrimination, for the meaning that should be completely examined, the self-characteristics that are mutually contradictory

If one does not understand, one cannot understand everything because it is limitless. If one knows that these Alaya-vijñana themselves appear as objects, sentient beings, self, and consciousness due to the power of the complete transformation of the habits of expression, then at that time one will realize that the object of grasping does not exist, and one will also understand through reason that the grasper does not exist, thereby obtaining non-conceptual wisdom. After that, one should familiarize oneself with the common characteristic of all dharmas, which is suchness, and know that it and all dharmas are of one taste. Because there is no limit, it is easy to obtain omniscient wisdom. There is no other method for purifying wisdom except for purifying the object of focus. Therefore, it is said in the sutras that with wisdom that possesses a single moment, one knows all dharmas. It is also said: If one engages in conceptualization of the investigated dharma and does not abandon attachment to all objects of knowledge, there will be no omniscience; therefore, the selflessness of dharmas is taught. The meaning of this passage is not understood by those who are not obvious. For example, just as fire wants to burn everything because of its continuous power, similarly, although one wants to know everything, one cannot know everything all at once. Therefore, it is said that the practice of obtaining omniscient wisdom through the Alaya-vijñana and not understanding the Alaya-vijñana will become difficult. This mainly explains this point. If one asks, is the selflessness of all dharmas not omniscience? The answer is: It is omniscience, but it is not all-knowing. It is also said that in different ways, the Alaya-vijñana is also taught in the Hearer Vehicle. This is a convenient way to approach the famous views of other schools, thereby concluding that the great path of establishing the Alaya-vijñana is established. If one asks, in which sutra is it said that there are four benefits of the coming of the Tathagata? The answer is: This is said in the Sutra on the Four Benefits of the Coming of the Tathagata. In the phrases such as "Beings are universally delighted in the Alaya-vijñana," because they rejoice by relying on the Alaya-vijñana, they are universally delighted in the Alaya-vijñana at that time. Why is that? For example, "truly arising from the Alaya-vijñana" refers to the past time, because it arises from it. Also, this is a state of manifest joy in the future, that
