Ro! Just as an echo, though without an echo, exists in many auditory objects, similarly, though without the activity of speech, it exists in various names. Water-moon refers to the moon in water, just as water is moist and clear, though without a moon, it is perceived to exist within it, similarly, with the true meaning as the object, with the moisture of faith as its nature, the mind possessing samadhi, though without the meaning of the object, will enter. If one asks what difference there is between this and an image? I would say that it lies in being in equipoise and not being in equipoise. If one thinks that due to the great power of the aggregation of causes such as the face, such things occur in water and mirrors, just as glass and the like appear due to conditions such as proximity, then this thought is incorrect, because they are perceived as different. Just as the images of the face and moon in a well are perceived as different from the mirror and water, but knowledge and the like are not like that, because they are not different. In our treatises, water and the like do not exist, therefore the subject does not succeed. Whatever is created is an illusion, and similar to that, just as without illusion, one can perform illusion without error, therefore strive in practice, similarly, Bodhisattvas, though without a meaning to be examined, because they wish to subdue sentient beings by other means, completely take bodies in those places of birth. This is merely, for example, internal and external. Their distinctions are: near-acting is the activity of the body, the activity of speech, and the activity of the mind, these three, as well as non-equipoise, equipoise, and without confusion. These eight meanings have eight similes, just as the Bhagavan said, among many disciples, some wise ones will understand the meaning through similes. From "From what did the Bhagavan contemplate?" to "Having contemplated from here, he spoke," the words of both of these sutras have also been explained by these words. Starting from contemplating that there is no difference between samsara and nirvana, it is completely
