And, those that take others as their object, those that are encompassed by the truth of the path, and those that are obtained from the subsequent attainment are not, because they are not possessed by the desires that are practiced in the three realms, and because they are antidotes, and because they are not inverted. According to the treatises of the Sutra School, the formless realm is merely mind and mental events, so shouldn't it be called the second realm? No, because it is shown to be inverted. It is not merely consciousness because there is no form, but because all things do not exist. The Sutra School does not accept that the objects of the formless realms are inverted. The Explanation of the Thought Sutra should also be explained like the Ten Bhumi Sutra, or like the condensed version of the Abhidharma Sutra. Samadhi is the mind focusing on one object, it is a mental event. Its field of activity is the object. An image appears like a real form. The so-called "object is distinguished only by consciousness" means that there is no external object. I have said that consciousness is the object. The so-called "like this, the object is distinguished only by consciousness, which is said to be its nature," means that consciousness is said to be distinguished only by appearing as an object. The so-called "the mind itself" and so on, refers to showing the contradiction of self-action. Maitreya's "any dharma" and so on, is a response, because all dharmas have no agent, so the agent and the object of action are unreasonable. The so-called "arising in this way" refers to the greatness of dependent origination, which explains how the one thing appears in two forms. For example, the essence of form relies on its own nature and appears in mirrors and so on, but it is mistakenly thought that the image is seen, because mirrors and so on, by the power of the cause, although not other things, can appear. Similarly, By the power of the conditions of memory and discrimination, although not different, the image of the object of samadhi that appears as different arises in that way. That scripture is proven by valid cognition, and was personally determined by the Bhagavan. Just like this, when the mind enters into samadhi, etc.

Therefore, other lines of reasoning also come close to being established. Because things appear as desired, things like offerings are not other than the mind, just as a yogi dreams of offerings in a dream. The statement "Memory-consciousness is also not permissible" is made to dispel the doubts of others. Someone might think: the image in the realm of meditative absorption, such as a skeleton seen in a charnel ground, arises from the cause of experience, so it is a memory. To those who think this way, it is refuted by saying: it is not like that. The statement "If the object is placed in front, it will appear" means that if it were a memory, then just as it is seen in the object, the object is definite, how could this be a memory like an experience? That is also not the case. Therefore, the consciousness that arises from the practice that is established as manifest in this way is not a memory. Then, what is the consciousness of things that arises from hearing and thinking? That is a memory, so its object will be established as different from consciousness. If you ask this, it is also not like that. In this way, the memory that arises from hearing and so on is because it is focused on the past. Because the past does not exist, what appears there is only consciousness, because it is devoid of memory. Therefore, because it appears in that way, this is only consciousness, just like the image of a skeleton that is the object of a yogi in front. "By inference," etc., because it is clear, there is no effort to distinguish. The various consciousnesses that are like dreams are the consciousnesses of bodies and embodied beings, etc. From those, mentioning "eye-consciousness, etc." includes the consciousness of embodied beings and eaters. Those should only be consciousness, because they are the nature of consciousness. Mentioning "eye-consciousness, etc., those with form" includes the consciousness to be examined. The statement "How is it only consciousness" is because it has form, so it holds the impossible. Those also

Regarding "is" etc., the scriptural authority is what is stated in the Dashabhumika Sutra and the Samdhinirmocana Sutra. The reasoning is the images and dreams etc. in the realm of samadhi. "Like the former" means to apply by analogy. "If those also" means to compare and inquire about the cause of continuous arising, where "comparison" means similarity, and "stability" means not seeing interruption in the intermediate state. That itself is continuous, because it is continuous. Because it is the basis of all afflictions such as inversion. Mentioning "is" etc. includes afflictions, karma, and birth. The contacts of the eye etc. are the basis of all afflictions such as inversion, because they exist as the cause. "Because" refers to the answer given in response to asking the reason, that is, because the consciousnesses that appear as the meaningless eye etc. and form etc. are similar and constantly arise, that is why inversions occur. "Otherwise" means that if it were not so, the meaningless would not be inverted into the meaningful. If there is no inversion, because there is no cause, afflictions and the obscurations of knowledge would lead to no afflictions at all. If there are no afflictions at all, purification would also not exist, because it is distinguished by reversing it. Therefore, the meaning of "like this these" is just a conjunction. If it does not arise because of need, but arises because of cause, is it not accepted? No, because it is answered in the way it was asked. Others asked about the need, but did not ask about the cause as a seed, because they knew that it exists in the alaya-vijnana and is beginningless. The cause of illusion is considered to be the consciousness that appears as form. Illusion is considered to be the formless consciousness. Therefore, if the consciousness that appears as form, the consciousness with form, does not exist, then illusion, the formless consciousness, also does not exist, because the object-possessor without an object is not
