ro. They are not mutual, because they are incompatible sides and enemies. Therefore, the fully ripened is neither virtuous nor non-virtuous, because two incompatible things would come to exist together. The topic of knowable things is finished. That which is called 'finished' is not something to be explained again. Volume Three. The characteristics of knowable things, in brief, are threefold, because all phenomena are completely divided into three. The characteristic of 'other-powered' is that it is dominated by actions and other afflictions that follow after the complete conceptualization of the apprehended and the apprehender. Whatever is knowable, being characterized in that way is the characteristic of 'other-powered'. The characteristic of 'completely imputed' is the characteristic of utter non-existence, because that which is to be completely imputed is the apprehended and the apprehender, and whatever person or thing is designated as completely imputed is a characteristic. How does that become a characteristic? How does it not become one? Like this, the completely imputed has no knowledge, because it would follow that it exists. If it is not known, then it cannot be a characteristic or a basis. How is it not known? Didn't the Blessed One say, 'One does not know that which exists as existing, and one does not know that which does not exist as non-existent'? Similarly, one will know that which exists as existing, and one will know that which does not exist as non-existent. Isn't that what was said? The non-existence of the completely imputed, the apprehended, the apprehender, self, or phenomena, whatever is the characteristic of being completely established, if that becomes the object of valid cognition, then it is known. By completely knowing that, one completely determines that the completely imputed exists, because there is something incompatible. It is not completely determined by accepting it as an object of reality. In that, the consciousness of body, embodied, and eater, etc., the consciousness of body is the sense faculty appearing as form. Similarly, the word 'appearing' should be added to the following ones as well. The consciousness of the embodied is the mind. The consciousness of the eater is the consciousness of the mind. The consciousness to be closely practiced by that is the external sense bases. The consciousness that closely practices that is the five consciousnesses. The consciousness of time.
