When others raise the objection, "How does one become pure?" having recognized this, one then declares, "Due to the different inclinations of the yogis," and so forth. What is inclination, and how does one incline? Just as one observes with distinctions such as gold, there are various objects of focus, such as distinctions of gold, silver, grass, and trees as various objects of focus. Common bonds are difficult to abandon, and complete knowledge is also considered difficult. "Common" is so-called because it arises from a common cause. "Bond" means attachment. It is difficult to abandon and complete, and because knowledge is difficult, it is difficult to abandon and complete knowledge is difficult. "From the great sign of the external realm" refers to the vast place, the vessel-world. "Different minds" refers to the various inclinations. "That is not ceased" means that because it is completely occupied by the conceptual thoughts of other sentient beings, it is not ceased. "Of the pure ones" refers to those who have transformed their places. "Because the Buddha's vision is completely pure," and so forth, means that ordinary beings who have not abandoned the conceptual thoughts of form, etc., see lands that are muddy, stony and hail-filled, uneven, with tree stumps, thorns, and uncleanliness, those very Tathagatas who have abandoned the conceptual thoughts of form, etc., see them as the nature of gold, etc., just as one sees sorrow as a tree. "What is not common is the seed that arises together with feeling," which is because it is the place of feelings such as happiness and suffering. "If that does not exist" means that if the alaya-consciousness, which is the nature of common and uncommon, does not exist, then the distinction of "This is the sentient world, this is the vessel-world, this is happiness, this is suffering" will disappear. "The nature of the bad destination" means that bad is evil, and accepting it is the bad destination. It is the seed of afflictions and near-afflictions. The bad destination is the unsuitable place. The nature of complete subduing.

That is to say, "extremely tamed" means the opposite of what was said before, that is, it is a synonym for suitability, lightness, and pleasantness. The characteristic of having been habituated is that whatever is virtuous and non-virtuous, etc., even if it is already mature, it cannot mature again, because it has been habituated. For example, just as a seed cannot sprout again after it has sprouted. The characteristic of not having been habituated is that whatever is the seed of the habit of manifestation, it is said that as the conditions are, the seed grows, because the beginningless and endless proliferation has become the cause. If that is exhausted, it means that if the alaya-consciousness, which is the characteristic of both, is absent, if the characteristic of having been temporarily habituated is absent, then virtue and evil, etc., it is said that the destruction of what has been habituated by giving fruit will be absent, which is a synonym for saying that after giving fruit, it becomes fruit again. If the alaya-consciousness that has not been habituated is exhausted, then the habit of manifestation cannot be newly produced, and what has not become old before manifestation, what has not been born before but is born now, does not exist in the world. The example characteristic is that the example shows that it should be compared to illusion, etc. For example, how illusion, etc., is the cause of seeing what is true, so is the alaya-consciousness. If that is exhausted, it means that if what should be compared to illusion, etc., is exhausted, then the alaya-consciousness will not become the cause of inversion, but will become the cause of not seeing the truth. Thus, the meaning of alaya-consciousness has been explained by names, definitive words, characteristics, and distinctions. Because it corresponds to the separate true knowledge. Why, etc., is to ask a question and say what one wants to say, that is, unobscured and unindicated, which is a synonym for saying that it is neither afflictive nor indicative. Thus, it shows the cause. Thus, unobscured and unindicated is not contradictory to virtue and non-virtue, which is to say that it is the object of cause and effect.
