Because there is not. For the entering consciousnesses, assuming that it is impossible to have afflictive pervasive afflictions, therefore it is said such as "What is eye consciousness" and so on. The so-called cessation of eye consciousness, interrupted by other consciousnesses, refers to being interrupted by ear consciousness and so on. Because the habits of attachment and so on exist and have been extinguished. The so-called impossibility of arising attachment and so on, refers to the impossibility of eye consciousness arising in accordance with attachment, hatred, and ignorance, because there is no cause. The past eye consciousness in accordance with attachment and so on, cannot become its cause, just like the maturation fruit arises from past karma. Just as the Vaibhashikas say that the maturation fruit arises from past karma, the Sautrantikas do not acknowledge it because there is no function of habits, so for them, because there is no past, it is impossible for the mind in accordance with attachment and so on to arise from that. This is temporarily acknowledging the habits of attachment and so on for the eye consciousness that arises together with attachment and so on, showing that anything else that arises from that cannot be in accordance with attachment and so on. Now, for the consciousness itself that arises together with attachment and so on, it is also analyzed that habits are unreasonable, that is, eye consciousness arises together with attachment and so on, for that also and so on. Temporarily, it is not for attachment, because attachment depends on it, the so-called attachment depends on it, the word temporarily means the meaning of order. Attachment is a mental factor, therefore it depends on consciousness. It is a rational way to indicate the dependent with the dependent, it is not allowed to indicate the dependent with the dependent itself, because it is contradictory to act on oneself. Because it is not stable. Some people do not recite, because consciousness is also not stable. The so-called not for other consciousnesses either, refers to ear consciousness and so on. Because the supports of the consciousnesses are different, the so-called support is the ear

etc., are the places of the various consciousnesses, and they are different. Therefore, eye consciousness arises only in dependence on the eye, and not from anything else, as it was said earlier that it contradicts the three differences. The statement "not arising and ceasing together" means that for those that do not arise together, habituation should be applied, and because there is no object to apply it, it shows that there is no characteristic of habituation. The statement "it is also not on its own object" means that eye consciousness itself should not apply habituation to eye consciousness itself, because the one to be habituated and the one that habituates, the action and the agent, would be confused and become a fault. It is also not permissible to apply habituation to that consciousness by consciousness, which means that one should not apply habituation to eye consciousness by consciousness of ear etc., with attachment etc. that arise simultaneously with that other, which is a concluding statement, as before, because the places are different. The reason is only this much, and it is not permissible in any way. Just as with eye consciousness, etc., it is said to have the same meaning as before. Those who die and transmigrate from the vast upper realm of the realm of non-perception and are born here, refers to the desire realm. The afflictions and near afflictions refer to desire etc. and anger etc. The statement "at the very beginning" refers to the time of connecting the two existences. The statement "with a place" is explained as before. This is the view of the Sutra School and the time of determination, and according to their treatises, the past and the future do not exist as entities. The statement "if the consciousness that is the antidote to the afflictions arises" etc. means that if there is no all-ground consciousness, then at what time, when one first enters the fruit of stream-enterer, when the antidote to the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing has not arisen, if all worldly consciousnesses have ceased, then where will the latent afflictions to be abandoned by meditation reside? The antidote itself should not be connected with the seeds of the opposing side, because it is liberated by its very nature.
