Furthermore, afflictions and universal actions will not succeed. If so, if afflictions acknowledge the mind consciousness as afflicted, then it will become extremely afflicted, how will generosity and other virtuous thoughts arise? It arises from a combination similar to this. Furthermore, if there is a mind that accords with virtue, then it will combine similarly with it, but for an afflicted mind, it is not appropriate to introduce the opponent's side. Furthermore, if there is a virtuous mind that accords with a mind that is merely afflicted, then when the opponent's side, led by it, arises, the other will cease, so there is no fault in this. It is the same as the five, that is, just as the five consciousnesses such as eye consciousness have the five such as the eye as the same basis, similarly, the mind consciousness also has a basis that becomes similar to it. The difference in samadhi is that the one who has an afflicted mind is the samadhi without perception, because it has it. For others, it does not exist, that is the difference. Otherwise, if neither has the mind consciousness universally present, then there will be no difference. It will become a fault of lacking a defining word. Because it clings to "I," the defining word called "mind," then what is the basis for uttering that word? For the six consciousnesses that have just ceased, it is not said like this, because it has ceased. When the continuum of birth without perception is obtained, it will become a fault of lacking self-grasping, like this, if there is no afflicted mind at that time, then it will be born without self-grasping. If so, then the noble ones will not blame either, because that is blame itself, so it should be recognized that it exists there. Combined with self-grasping, that is, generosity and so on, generosity is also combined with self-grasping. Being combined with self-grasping is also inseparable from ignorance, and ignorance is not without a basis, and if the afflicted mind does not exist, then others do not exist, because effort has been made to abandon afflictions and cognitive obscurations, therefore it is shown for those. The basis of all beings.
