and so on. Because if the colored sense faculties such as the eye are not held by the ālaya-vijñāna, they will become like a dead body, turning into states such as blue. Whenever someone dies and is separated from the ālaya-vijñāna, these eyes and so on will also turn into states such as blue. Therefore, it should be understood in this way: as long as it holds them, life will not decline. Because all of the body becomes a place to be taken, it is also the taker. The explanation for this is: even when connecting the intermediate state, it is explained by "holding those that manifest." Because the one who connects the intermediate state holds the connection of the intermediate state and the manifested things, all of the body is completely held and transformed, because all the predispositions of the body are universally present in the ālaya-vijñāna. Those that manifest, their manifestation is those that manifest. The holder is the proximate cause of those that manifest, and its holding produces a true object. In this sense, the ālaya-vijñāna is also called the consciousness of taking. It is also called mind, the so-called mind is the ālaya-vijñāna, just as consciousness takes various things as its object, its meaning will also become various, this has already been shown. Among them, the similarity is that because it is the immediate cause, any consciousness that immediately ceases becomes the cause of consciousness, therefore that is one mind. The second is the afflicted mind afflicted by the four afflictions, which is the view of the aggregates of destruction, the manifest clinging to self, and the pride that follows, thinking oneself superior, and the attachment to the unreal self, and the root of these three—ignorance, ignorance is not knowing. The so-called "born from one place, defiled by two" refers to the fact that the consciousness that has just ceased is called mind, therefore, when all consciousness arises, giving arises.

It is the support. Secondly, the afflicted one is that which afflicts in every way, because the thought of "I" also arises in virtuous mind. Because it perceives objects in various ways, it is called consciousness. Because it acts as the immediate support and because it gives rise to ego-clinging, it is said to have two aspects of mind. Among them, in terms of holding onto objects, consciousness is the one that gives opportunity, and in terms of giving opportunity, mind is one. In terms of afflicting in every way with pride and so on, it is the second afflicted mind. Furthermore, if that afflicted mind does not exist, then the consciousness that enters with the mind that has what as its cause will also not enter, so it should be observed. By mentioning consciousness, the second aspect of mind is also mentioned, because if one says that the mind that has ceased due to whatever cause is the mind itself, then it can be obtained. Also, the definitive word for this is that it is filled with the seeds of the habits of various dharmas and is able to receive them. Among them, various means various differences. The so-called seeds of the habits of dharmas means the difference in ability due to whatever cause. The so-called filled means the meaning of being extremely filled and accumulated. Because it gathers all subtle knowable things, it is said that it is subtle and knowable, so it is a subtle knowable thing, belonging to the category of subtle knowable things, or because it is difficult to understand. Hearers are not happy to know all knowable things, but only as a cause for their own benefit, they abandon the coarse obscurations of afflictions, such as suffering, by knowing them. Bodhisattvas are for themselves and all others. Furthermore, what is the reason for establishing what is said in this way? If it does not exist, then there will be the fault of ignorance that is not mixed with anything. Furthermore, what is ignorance that is not mixed with anything? It is that which obscures the knowledge of suchness when the antidote has not arisen. However, it is also not associated with the five consciousnesses, because it does not obscure dwelling in them, so wherever an antidote arises, there also arises an opposing side. It is also not present in the consciousness of the non-afflicted mind, because it would become afflicted. Not afflicted.
