If it is said, what is 'non-conceptual'? It is neither knowing nor not knowing. This is indicated by the statement. For the time being, that is not knowing, because it does not enter like the nature of wisdom with conceptualization arising from combination. That is also not not knowing, because it arises from the wisdom with conceptualization arising from combination becoming the cause. In that (aspect), it is not this, not that. It is neither knowing nor not knowing. Another meaning of (this) statement is that, because that into which conceptualization enters is also not (non-conceptual), therefore it is also not knowing. Because it enters into the nature of reality, it is also not different from that, therefore it is also not not knowing. That is not what was said before and after. The knowable and non-different, that knowing is non-conceptual. (This) statement is saying that, like arising from a combination that enters into the nature of the grasped and the grasper, it is not non-conceptual, however, whatever enters into the non-difference of the grasped and the knowable, entering into equality, that is non-conceptual. That wisdom does not abide in the nature of the grasped and the grasper. Moreover, the Bhagavan said in another sutra, 'All dharmas are non-conceptual,' in order to indicate that, all dharmas by nature, are called non-conceptual. All dharmas by nature are called non-conceptual, that is the phrase of this statement. Because of what? Because there is nothing to be conceptualized. (This) is saying that, because there is nothing to be conceptualized. Moreover, because there is nothing to be conceptualized in that way, therefore the dharmas are naturally non-conceptual. Therefore, then why do all sentient beings not become liberated? Like this, that knowing is non-conceptual. This statement says that, even though all dharmas are non-conceptual by nature, the indication that sentient beings are not liberated is because there is no non-reliance on conceptualization. Therefore, even though all dharmas are non-conceptual by nature, if the wisdom of realization arises there, then he will directly see it, and that is non-conceptual. By that he will also be liberated, but if it has not arisen, then (he will not be liberated).

The term is called "unchanging." Therefore, wisdom is non-conceptual. In order to show the distinctions of those three wisdoms, it is said that they are distinguished by cause, impulsion, and arising from habituation. Among these, what arises from the yoga of non-conceptuality is threefold: some arise from the power of lineage, some from the power of impulsion, and some from the power of habituation in the present time. Among these, what arises from the power of lineage arises from what has become the cause there. What arises from the power of impulsion arises from the very cause of having habituated in the previous birth. What arises from the power of habituation arises from the cause of the power of the individual's effort in the present birth itself. It is said that it is non-conceptual because of knowing the Dharma, being non-inverted, and being without elaboration. Among these, non-conceptuality through contentment should be regarded as the culmination of what arises from hearing and thinking. Non-conceptuality from contentment is non-conceptual through contentment. Having done so, whichever of hearing or thinking has brought the mind to its culmination, that is the contentment of a Bodhisattva abiding on the ground of an ordinary being, which will arise. That is, for the time being, this is enough, and with this meaning, it is non-conceptual through contentment. Furthermore, it should also be regarded as the worldly non-conceptuality of contentment, that is, one who has reached the peak of existence should be regarded as Nirvana, because there is nothing else to realize beyond that, and therefore contentment will arise. Conceptualization through non-inversion should be regarded as the Shravakas and so forth, because their wisdom of realizing Suchness perfectly, with respect to the four non-inversions such as impermanence, does not invertedly conceive of aspects such as permanence. Again, non-conceptuality through non-elaboration should be regarded as that of the Bodhisattvas, because from all Dharmas up to enlightenment, it is also non-conceptual without elaboration.
