Regarding "holding onto characteristics in that very nature," on the other's nature, because of holding onto the characteristics of names such as eyes, why hold onto characteristics and conceptualize? Regarding "being manifestly attached to that by seeing," it means that this is like this, holding onto characteristics as characteristics themselves and being attached. Regarding "discriminations arouse speech," even if being manifestly attached does not harm, the three discriminations cause us to arise. Regarding "imputing terms with the four terms of seeing, etc.," it means how seeing, hearing, knowing, and distinguishing are the four types of terms used to make terms with others. Regarding "imputing existence to non-existence," it means that, like terms, it is because of holding onto the meaning of non-existence as existence itself. Regarding "the reason for conceptualization," it means that the very nature of conceptualization, with consciousness holding onto the characteristic of what is conceptualized, arises as the essence of the object. Regarding "because of that which is conceptualized," it means that the consciousness of conceptualization, by holding onto the characteristic of what is conceptualized as the object, conceptualizes, so for that reason, the other's nature is called conceptualized. Consciousness conceptualizes with conceptualization, by conceptualization itself, conceptualization is like that, it is completely absent, so like this, for that reason, that other's nature is completely established. Regarding "the other's nature, which is not completely established by the nature of being completely defiled and completely purified," it means that because of what, if such an other's nature becomes conceptualized, it becomes completely defiled, and if it does not become conceptualized, it becomes completely purified. The entry of those two into one sound is what is not established. Conceptualization in essence and conceptualization in difference, among them, conceptualization in essence means, like in the eyes, etc., conceptualizing the essence of the eyes, etc. Conceptualization in difference means, like this, the differences in the nature of those themselves, such as non-discrimination.

The beings of the hell realm, and so on, are also the same; "and so on" includes animals and hungry ghosts. The desire realm, and so on, is as before; the mention of "and so on" includes the form and formless realms. The conceptualization that appears as a sign is that which appears as a sign of the eye consciousness and so on, such as the eye, and is the conceptualization of the nature of appearing as a sign. Therefore, whatever aging and so on that truly reveals the reality of these things causes changes to arise in their respective states. The conceptualization that is shown by others is that which is shown by others. Moreover, it is of two types: following the hearing of non-virtuous teachings and following the hearing of virtuous teachings. Furthermore, it is of two types: conceptualizing phenomena is following the hearing of teachings, and one should gather together virtuous and non-virtuous things in this way. The conceptualization of inappropriate attention arises from hearing non-virtuous teachings. The "outsiders" mentioned here are the non-Buddhists. The conceptualization of appropriate attention arises from hearing virtuous teachings; the "followers of this dharma" are the Buddhas. The conceptualization of attachment is that which arises from the cause of inappropriate attention, namely, the conceptualization that is based on the view of self and is similar to and included in the sixty-two views taught in the sutras. The conceptualization of distraction refers to the ten conceptualizations of bodhisattvas. Among them, the distraction of the sign of non-things means that non-things are the sign, and it is called distraction and so on. Moreover, the antidote to that distraction is taught in the Prajnaparamita Sutra: although bodhisattvas exist, the term "exists" means that bodhisattvas exist in the nature of emptiness. It is shown in this way: whatever nature is shown to exist, that is the nature of emptiness.
