If one moment follows another, and the previous moment becomes the cause of the subsequent moment, then it will never perish. Therefore, it must arise from a cause that projects. Those seeds are also like the joining of the arrow shaft and the completion of the arrow, becoming the cause of the arrow's flight and hitting the target. Furthermore, any other entering consciousness should be regarded as functioning in the body and all actions. That is to say, it means that in this case, functioning occurs, and the nature of functioning is called the functioner. This meaning is explained in the verses of the *Madhyāntavibhāga* and the scriptural authority of the *Sūtra*. The teaching that those consciousnesses themselves are the cause of one another comes from the verses of the *Dharma Samuccaya Sūtra*: "All dharmas are connected to consciousness." This means that the entities that are mutually the cause, because they arise from the fundamental consciousness, are the cause. The entities that are the result are always connected. This means that when the ālaya-vijñāna is the cause, then it is the result; when it is the cause, the ālaya-vijñāna is the result. These are the three ways of dependent origination: saṃsāra, desire, the path of non-desire, and the functioner, there are four conditions. Among them, the first is the causal condition, which is the habitual tendencies of the dharmas residing in the ālaya-vijñāna. The second is the adhipati condition, which is that due to the influence of ignorance and so on, the formations arise. It is also called the dependent origination of the functioner. The six consciousnesses have three conditions, among which, the adhipati condition of eye consciousness is the eye, the object condition is form, and the immediately preceding condition is the consciousness that arises immediately after it, because if it does not provide the opportunity, nothing will arise. The other consciousnesses are also the same. Thus, after showing the other names of the ālaya-vijñāna, now its definition will be determined.

How can both be suitable for the alaya-vijñana? To prove that it is not so, it must be definitely pointed out by reason. That is, for example, the eye-consciousness that arises and ceases together with afflictions such as desire and near afflictions, that eye-consciousness itself will be impregnated with the seed-substance of those afflictions, and not others. The phrase "to that, that itself" refers to eye-consciousness. The phrase "of those" refers to desire and so on. The phrase "seed-substance" refers to the substance of the cause. The phrase "not to others" refers to consciousness such as ideation. The phrase "interrupted by other consciousness" means interrupted by consciousness such as ideation. The phrase "habit" refers to the habit of desire and so on. The phrase "place of habit" refers to eye-consciousness. The phrase "arising together with desire and so on" means arising together with the desirous. Therefore, it is not possible from a past cause. For example, just as it is impossible for a Vipāka fruit to arise from a past time, so it is impossible from that as well. If the Vaibhāṣikas think that the past exists, and therefore it can arise from the past, then what is their so-called past, since speech cannot establish it? What is this past? If a certain dharma has already produced a Vipāka fruit, then it has no habit, so it is not possible. Regarding eye-consciousness, for the time being, the eye-consciousness that arises together with desire and so on cannot be impregnated with habit. How can there be habit in what is born from eye-consciousness? For the time being, it is not possible for desire. It is not possible for desire to have the habit of eye-consciousness. Because desire depends on eye-consciousness, or does not depend on eye-consciousness. It is also not possible for other consciousnesses, such as ear-consciousness. Because they are different places. If there are different places, then there will be no simultaneous arising and ceasing. The place of eye-consciousness

Śi Mig. The place of ear consciousness is form. Similarly, the place of mind consciousness is up to what is called mind. Thus, since it is the place of kalpas, other habits are not suitable for others. It is also not for one's own object, namely: for eye consciousness, the habit of eye consciousness is also not, because there is no arising of the two eye consciousnesses, because the nature of the two is not there, so there is no simultaneous arising and cessation. Thus, it is not permissible to impregnate habits with afflictions such as desire and near afflictions in eye consciousness, and the habit of eye consciousness itself is not in that eye consciousness. What is called the very beginning is the very first here. Moreover, it will arise without a seed, which is called arising without a cause. That habit is with a place, which is called the habit of afflictions with mind. If the consciousness of the antidote to afflictions arises, then when all other mundane consciousnesses that are not that cease, it is called when the six consciousnesses cease. That consciousness is not permissible with the seeds of afflictions and near afflictions, namely, in any continuous stream of antidote consciousness, mundane consciousness will enter. After that, it is called therefore after the supramundane mind itself. That habit is with a place, namely, with a place, with consciousness. That habit is called affliction and the habit of affliction. From having no seed, namely, from having no cause. Arising is appearing. It will become, namely, also without the Alaya consciousness. That affliction itself is pervasive affliction, the pervasive affliction of affliction. Thus, here the pervasive affliction of affliction is not suitable. In what way is the pervasive affliction of karma unsuitable, that should be established, how is it unsuitable? Because consciousness is unsuitable due to the cause of formation, namely, merit and non-merit and.
