So, what is the meaning of what I said? Because self-nature does not arise, there is no self-nature of one's own, it does not abide in its own essence, and like what children grasp, it is without characteristics. Furthermore, for the self-nature of the completely imputed, there is characteristiclessness; for the dependent origination, there is arisinglessness; for the thoroughly established, there is ultimate selflessness. What is the meaning of "unborn, unceasing, originally peaceful, naturally nirvana"? Just as there is no self-nature, so it is unborn. Just as it is unborn, so it is unceasing. Just as it is unborn and unceasing, so it is originally peaceful. Thus, it is naturally completely nirvana. Furthermore, for those who wish to understand the intention of the Tathagatas regarding the vast and profound teachings, there are four intentions: the intention of equality, the intention of different times, the intention of different meanings, and the intention of the inclinations of individuals. Furthermore, for those who wish to understand the hidden meanings of the Tathagatas regarding the vast and profound teachings, there are four hidden meanings: the hidden meaning of addition, the hidden meaning of characteristics, the hidden meaning of antidotes, and the hidden meaning of transformation. How should a Bodhisattva skillfully understand the truth of Dharma in the vast and profound teachings? There are five ways: in each moment, one destroys all places of suffering; being free from various perceptions, one obtains joy in the Dharma; one truly knows that all appearances of Dharma that are not completely cut off are immeasurable; for this, marks of non-discrimination that are in accordance with the pure aspect arise universally; in order to perfect the Dharmakaya and to completely accomplish it, one completely holds the cause of the higher Dharma even more than before. Why is it appropriate to make offerings with incense and powders for the vast and profound teachings, but not for the teachings of the Shravakas? Because it benefits all sentient beings and is the source of happiness. This is called "Discriminating the Dharma," the third chapter of the "Compendium of Determinations." The fifth fascicle, the end.
