It is observed in five ways: namely, the basis and arising, like a mirror, appearance, and place. What is the basis? It is based on the truth of accumulating merit and hearing much of the Dharma. What is the arising? It is to properly direct the mind towards it. What is like a mirror? It is the concentration of focus on it, along with its characteristics. What is the appearance? It is knowing that the grasped and the grasper are not discernible. Considering this, the Blessed One said: When a Bodhisattva is in equipoise, By seeing the image in the mind, From the perception of objects, one turns away, And certainly grasps one's own perception. Thus, abiding in one's own mind, One should realize the absence of the grasped. Beneath it, there is no grasper, Then, one touches the non-objective. Thus, it is well spoken. It is well taught. What is the place? It is the transformation of place. How can one be said to be skilled in the Dharma with respect to all dharmas? Because of hearing much of the Dharma. How can one be said to be skilled in meaning? Because of knowing the nature of the Abhidharma and the Vinaya Abhidharma. How can one be said to be skilled in letters? Because of knowing the letters of definitive and excellent statements. How can one be said to be skilled in definitive statements? Because of knowing how to interpret the definitive statements of local people, such as "I know, I know," without being attached to the superficial meaning, but following worldly customs. How can one be said to be skilled in the connection between the past and future extremes? Because of knowing that in the past extreme, there is the grasped, and in the future extreme, one should definitely arise. How can one be said to abide in the Dharma with respect to all dharmas? Without relying on meditation, merely through the practice of hearing and thinking, one cannot abide in the Dharma; without relying on hearing and thinking, merely through the practice of meditation, one cannot abide in the Dharma; but by relying on both, and abiding in both, one can abide in the Dharma. Holding, reciting, and explaining should be regarded as arising from hearing. Practicing concentration and not being complacent should be regarded as arising from meditation. Practice should be regarded as continuous, practicing with respect, and practicing without inversion. Not being complacent should be regarded as not tasting flavors, and practicing higher cessation. Why is it that for the extremely vast Bodhisattva's other shore

What is called the section on perfections? In it, the number of perfections is taught, their characteristics are taught, their order is taught, their definitive words are taught, their meditation is taught, their various distinctions are taught, their summary is taught, their opposing factors are taught, their praise of qualities is taught, and the certainty of one in relation to another is taught. Why is vastness and profundity taught in the extremely vast? Because the omniscient nature itself is vast and profound. Why do some sentient beings in the extremely vast not believe in vastness and profundity and become frightened? Because they are separated from the nature of reality, have not generated roots of virtue, and are completely seized by evil friends. Why do some sentient beings in the extremely vast believe but do not become certain? Because they abide in holding the view of self as supreme and cling to the literal meaning of the meaning. Considering this, the Bhagavan said in the category of the great torch of Dharma: When a Bodhisattva improperly analyzes the Dharma according to the literal meaning, twenty-eight evil views arise. What are those twenty-eight evil views? They are: viewing characteristics, viewing imputation as slander, viewing pervasive discrimination as slander, viewing that very nature as slander, viewing complete grasping, viewing transformation, viewing as faultless, viewing as definitely arising, viewing as devouring courage, viewing as extremely disturbing, viewing as inverted, viewing as increasing, viewing as not accepting, viewing as evil deceit, viewing as respect, viewing as relying on ignorance, viewing as fundamental, viewing a view as not a view, viewing as severing connection, viewing as not definitely giving, viewing as obscurations, viewing as increasing non-merit, viewing as fruitless, viewing as included in annihilation, viewing as slander, viewing as non-expression, viewing as great views, and viewing as manifest pride. In the extremely vast, it is said that all dharmas are without inherent existence.
