Now, the fault of erring, and speaking rarely after abandoning the six kinds of faults, speaking without erring is rare, speaking while protecting the minds of others is rare, speaking while guarding samadhi is rare, speaking without a mind of victory or defeat is rare, even in victory or defeat, being without all afflictions is rare, becoming completely afflicted and abiding in contact is rare, not abiding in contact and constantly meditating on virtuous dharmas is rare, not constantly meditating on virtuous dharmas, abiding equally in a mind that has not been equally placed, and attaining liberation in a mind that has been equally placed is rare. What is the definitive ascertainment of hidden intention? It is expressing the meaning of collections of names, collections of words, and collections of letters in another way, and completely transforming the meaning into another. As it is said: "Father and mother have been killed, the king is two clean ones, having destroyed the country and its retinue, that person becomes pure." Like that. Again, as it is said: "Not believing and not repaying kindness, and the person who destroys another's home, destroying opportunities and eating vomit, that is the most excellent person. Knowing the meaningless as meaningful, abiding greatly in the inverted, completely and thoroughly afflicted by afflictions, one will attain supreme bodhi." Like that. Again, as it is said: "When a bodhisattva possesses five qualities, he perfects the perfection of generosity. What are the five? Increasing the nature of stinginess, being completely weary of giving, being angry with beggars, sometimes not giving anything at all, and being far from giving." Like that. Again, as it is said: "When a bodhisattva possesses five qualities, he is in pure conduct, and possesses excellent pure conduct, that is, not seeking liberation from sexual intercourse other than sexual intercourse, being lazy in abandoning sexual intercourse, generating sexual desire, accepting, being afraid of the antidotes to sexual intercourse, and constantly joining two by two." Like that. From the *Abhidharma-samuccaya*, the *Collected Ascertainment of Related Discourses* is called

Thus concludes the fifth, the Compendium. Why is this treatise called the Abhidharma-samuccaya? Because it is a compendium after realization. Because it is a compendium from all sources. Because it is a place of truly high excellence. The Abhidharma-samuccaya, composed by the teacher Asanga, is complete. Translated, edited, and finalized by the Indian abbot Jinamitra, Śīlendrabodhi, and the great translator, the monk Yeshé Dé. Abhidharma-samuccaya, Asanga.
