To discriminate in terms of difference itself, to discriminate in terms of self-nature, to discriminate in terms of particularity, to discriminate in meaning according to name, and to discriminate in name according to meaning. What is non-discrimination? It is the non-discrimination of contentment, the non-discrimination of non-perversion, and the non-discrimination of non-elaboration, respectively for ordinary beings, hearers, and bodhisattvas, in that order. Non-discrimination of non-elaboration is not due to non-attention, not due to true cessation, not due to peace, not due to self-nature, and it is not viewed as manifesting fabrication from the object of focus; however, it is viewed as not manifesting fabrication in relation to the object of focus. If a bodhisattva is naturally sharp-witted, how are the faculties tamed? That is, by relying on a small sharp faculty, the medium sharp faculty is manifestly accomplished. By relying on a medium sharp faculty, the great sharp faculty is manifestly accomplished. It is called obtaining ascertainment, which is the fourth chapter of the Compendium of Topics. What is ascertainment by related speech? There are seven types: ascertainment of meaning, ascertainment of explanation, ascertainment of detailed and comprehensive teaching, ascertainment of correct questioning, ascertainment of summarizing, ascertainment of speaking, and ascertainment of hidden permissible intention. What is ascertainment of meaning? It is what is ascertained starting from the six meanings. What are the six meanings? They are the meaning of self-nature, the meaning of cause, the meaning of result, the meaning of action, the meaning of association, and the meaning of entering. The meaning of self-nature is the three self-natures. The meaning of cause is the cause of arising, the cause of originating, and the cause of accomplishing. The meaning of result is the result of complete ripening, the result of similarity to the cause, the result of mastery, the result of human action, and the result of separation. The meaning of action is the action of the object of focus, the action of doing, the action of effort, the action of transformation, and the action of attainment. The meaning of association is what is transformed from many,

It is the possession arising from bondage, arising from connection, arising from circumstance, and arising from change. The meaning of entering is the entering of characteristics, entering into a basis, entering into perversion, entering into non-perversion, and entering into distinctions. What is definitive analysis? It is that which analyzes the sutras. And what is that? It is the object to be fully known, the meaning to be fully known, the cause to be fully known, full knowledge, the result of full knowledge, and the thorough knowledge thereof. Furthermore, there are fourteen doors of analysis: fourteen are the door of collecting analysis, the door of collecting objects, the door of limbs and near limbs, the door of manifest accomplishment from higher to higher, the door of abandonment, the door of complete transformation of letters, the door of exhaustion and non-exhaustion, the door of establishing persons, the door of establishing distinctions, the door of reason, and the door of full knowledge and so forth, the door of strength and non-strength, the door of repetition, and the door of manifest accomplishment. What is the definitive establishment of thoroughly distinguishing and universally revealing? It is to combine the doctrines that have been taught as appropriate, to understand from one, to combine with the preceding phrase, to combine with the following phrase, the two extremes, the three extremes, the four extremes, and "it is just so," and abandonment. What is definitive correct questioning? There are eight: the definitive correct questioning of what is taught as "what," and likewise for what is taught as "what" and what is taught as "how." Furthermore, there are four paths of determination: refuting, establishing, deciding, and comprehending. What is definitive collection? Determination is collected by ten places. What are the ten places? They are the determination of accomplishing actions, the determination of entering, the determination of faith, the determination by reason, the determination by words of increase, the determination by thorough contemplation, the determination by purity.
