Certainty and, through manifestly accomplishing, complete certainty and, through thoroughly distinguishing words, complete certainty and, spontaneously accomplished and merely through effort accomplishing all meanings is complete certainty. What is speech that is completely certain? Speech and, the grandeur of speech, and the basis of speech, and the adornment of speech, and cutting off speech by interruption, and arising from speech, and the dharmas that cherish speech. What is speech? Speech and, marvelous speech and, argumentative speech and, harsh speech and, harmonious speech and, instructive speech. Speech is all expression of words. Marvelous speech is that which is renowned in the world. Argumentative speech is abiding in mutual discord. Harsh speech is mutually approaching with harsh words. Harmonious speech is the complete certainty of words of connection that accord with the pure view of wisdom. Instructive speech is that which is taught in order to pacify the mind that is not yet pacified, and to liberate the mind that is already pacified. The grandeur of speech is the place where the king resides, and the place where appointees gather, and the assembly, and companions who are worthy of being standards, and shramanas and brahmins who are skilled in dharma and meaning. The basis of speech is argumentation and proof. Argumentation is essence and difference. Proof is the oath and, the reason and, the example and, the connection and, the conclusion and, direct perception and, inference and, trustworthy scripture. Proving essence is my essence and, the essence of dharma. Difference is my difference and, the difference of dharma. The oath is indicating to others the meaning that I wish to accomplish. The reason is the cause that makes one trust in the unknown meaning of that which is to be proven, namely the statement of visible and invisible that is manifest. The example is joining and stating what has seen the end and what has not seen the end as similar. The connection is stating harmoniously by way of connecting its dharma to that which is similar to the remaining dharma of its kind. The conclusion is stating the finality. Direct perception is having its own meaning and appearing without error. Inference is trusting in the remainder of direct perception. Trust

深信不疑的依据表明,这二者并不矛盾。言语的庄严是通晓自己和他人的宗义,言辞圆满丰富,无畏,稳固,和谐。言语断绝的遮止是断绝言语的后续,留下未完的话语,以及言语的过失。断绝言语的后续是承认自己的言语过失,承认他人的言语功德。留下未完的话语是这样的:从一个传到另一个,或者说其他的话语,就像经部里所说的那样。言语的过失是闲聊,混乱,不适合表达,不恰当,没有意义,不在适当的时候说话,不稳定,不消除,词语不连贯。从言语中产生的是,如果认识到反驳者不是法器,眷属没有功德,自己也不聪明,就不应该说话。如果反驳者是法器,或者眷属具有功德,或者认识到自己聪明,就应该说话。珍视言语的诸法是精通自己和他人的宗义,因此在一切场合都可以说话。无畏是指凭借它可以在一切眷属中说话。自信是指凭借它知道在一切场合如何回答。应该了解以正确和良好意愿说话的方式,不应该争辩和说话。就像世尊在《法句经》中所说的那样,见到十二处(ayatana)的菩萨,精勤于善法,以精进为核心,迅速地摄受众生,想要现证无上圆满正等觉,不应该与他人争论而说话。十二处是什么呢?具有殊胜的圣法之义的说法,普遍知晓是稀少的;以普遍知晓的意愿说话是稀少的;集会中聪明、有领悟力、具足的人是稀少的;完全执持并明显执着的过失;恶劣的欺骗性言语的过失;不在适当的时候进行谈话的过失;贬低言语的过失;粗暴言辞的过失;

The basis of unwavering faith shows that these two are not contradictory. The adornment of speech is knowing one's own and others' tenets, having complete and rich words, being fearless, stable, and harmonious. The cessation of speech that is to be prevented includes cutting off the continuation of speech, leaving words unfinished, and the faults of speech. Cutting off the continuation of speech means acknowledging one's own faults in speech and acknowledging the virtues of others' speech. Leaving words unfinished is like this: passing from one to another, or speaking other words, as it appears in the scriptures. The faults of speech are idle talk, confusion, being unsuitable for expression, being inappropriate, being meaningless, speaking at the wrong time, being unstable, not eliminating, and words not being coherent. What arises from speech is that if one recognizes that the opponent is not a suitable vessel, the retinue has no qualities, and oneself is not wise, one should not speak. If the opponent is a suitable vessel, or the retinue has qualities, or one recognizes oneself as wise, one should speak. The dharmas that cherish speech are being skilled in one's own and others' tenets, so that one can speak in all circumstances. Fearlessness is that by which one can speak in all retinues. Confidence is that by which one knows how to answer in all circumstances. One should understand the way of speaking with correct and good intention, and one should not argue and speak. Just as the Bhagavan said in the Abhidharma Sutra, a Bodhisattva who sees the twelve ayatanas, who is diligent in virtuous dharmas, who makes diligence the essence, who quickly gathers beings, and who desires to manifest the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment, should not speak by arguing with others. What are the twelve? Explaining the supreme meaning of the sacred Dharma, being universally known is rare; speaking with the intention of being universally known is rare; assemblies of wise, realized, and endowed individuals are rare; the fault of completely grasping and manifestly clinging to negative sides; the fault of malicious deceptive speech; the fault of engaging in talk at the wrong time; the fault of disparaging speech; the fault of harsh words;
