Even if it is determined to be eight, it becomes four: effort, benefit, proximity, and antidote. Furthermore, it is the collection of aspiration, diligence, mind, and examination, completely abandoning distraction along with its root, being without timidity, being without distraction, and cultivating in accordance with the place of both of them. What is the result? Having become well-versed in samadhi in that way, for whatever dharma one desires to realize, the mind being directed towards it, one becomes capable of realizing the dharmas of their respective places. What are the objects of the faculties? They are the four noble truths. What is the essence? It is faith, diligence, mindfulness, samadhi, and wisdom. What are the companions? They are the co-emergent mind and mental factors that are in accordance with it. What is the cultivation? The faculty of faith is cultivated by way of complete conviction in the truths. Having generated complete conviction, diligence is cultivated by way of joy in order to realize the truths. Having initiated diligence, mindfulness abiding near the truths is cultivated by way of non-forgetfulness. Samadhi with mindfulness abiding near the truths is cultivated by way of one-pointedness of mind. Wisdom abiding equally in the truths is cultivated by way of thorough discrimination. What is the result? It is the swift realization of the truths, and the accomplishment of warmth, peak, forbearance, and supreme mundane dharma. Just as with the faculties, so too with the powers. This is the distinction: because opposing factors are necessarily weakened, they are the powers, because they cannot be overcome. What are the objects of the limbs of enlightenment? It is how the reality of the four noble truths is. What is the essence? It is mindfulness, discrimination of dharmas, diligence, joy, pliancy, samadhi, and equanimity. Mindfulness is a limb of the place. Discrimination of dharmas is of the essence.

is a branch. Diligence is the branch of definite arising. Joy is the branch of benefit. Extreme pliancy, concentration, and equanimity are the branches of complete non-affliction, which cannot be completely afflicted by anything, cannot be completely afflicted anywhere, and has no complete affliction whatsoever. What is a companion? It is the mind and mental factors that are in accordance with it. What is meditation? It is the branch of mindfulness enlightenment. Dwelling in solitude, dwelling in detachment, dwelling in cessation, meditating by completely transforming through abandonment. Just as the branch of mindfulness enlightenment, so it is up to the branch of equanimity enlightenment. This shows the complete teaching of the practice of the enlightenment branch with truth as its object. What is the fruit? It is the abandonment of the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing. What is the object of the branches of the path? After that, what is the truth of the four noble truths? What is the nature? It is the eight branches, namely, right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Right view is the branch of complete determination. Right thought is the branch of making others understand. Right speech, action, and livelihood are the branches of making others believe, because of the complete purity of view, ethics, and livelihood. Right effort is the branch of completely purifying the obscurations of affliction. Right mindfulness is the branch of practicing near the obscurations of affliction. Right concentration is the branch of purifying the obscurations of special qualities. What is a companion? It is the mind and mental factors that are in accordance with it. Meditation is like the branch of enlightenment. What is the fruit? It is complete determination, making others understand, making others believe, complete purification of the obscurations of affliction, complete

What is Gapa? It is the complete purification of obscurations to special qualities. What are the four paths? Slow and difficult to realize, quick and difficult to realize, slow and easy to realize, and quick and easy to realize. The first is for those with dull faculties who have not yet attained the actual meditative absorption. The second is for those with sharp faculties who have not yet attained the actual meditative absorption. The third is for those with dull faculties who have attained the actual meditative absorption. The fourth is for those with sharp faculties who have attained the actual meditative absorption. What are the four abodes of Dharma? Absence of covetousness, absence of harmful intent, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Absence of covetousness and absence of harmful intent are the trainings in higher morality. Right mindfulness is higher mind. Right concentration is higher wisdom. What is calm abiding? It is like this: settling the mind on oneself, settling continuously, settling repeatedly, settling closely, taming, pacifying, completely pacifying, making one-pointed, and settling evenly. What is insight? It is like this: discriminating dharmas, thoroughly discriminating, completely comprehending, and completely examining. It is for the sake of countering negative situations, countering signs, liberating from perversions, and settling the mind on what is not perverse. Furthermore, relying on calm abiding and insight, one transforms into four paths: Some have attained calm abiding but have not attained insight; they rely on calm abiding and strive for insight. Some have attained insight but have not attained calm abiding; they rely on insight and strive for calm abiding. Some have neither attained calm abiding nor attained insight; they strive for both with a mind that has overcome excitement towards Dharma. Some have attained both calm abiding and insight; they mix calm abiding and insight and make them equally yoked. There are three faculties: the faculty of making the unknown known, the faculty of knowing, and the faculty of one who possesses knowledge. The unknown
